James Crossett was born in Ireland on Dec 25, 1827 as per his death certificate in Pennsylvania, his daughter Martha Engle being the informant. This dob does not agree with the various censuses. In 1920, his dob is 1830.

In 1910, he is age 75, so born 1835. https://www.rootschat.com/links/01scz/
In 1900, his dob is Oct 1834. https://www.rootschat.com/links/01sd0/
James is known to have married Catherine Vorhees Sept 8, 1874 but his previous marriage may have been to Nancy Kennedy Sept 7, 1858. This prior marriage is likely as James had a son John abt 1861, Thomas abt 1870, William abt 1865 and Mary abt 1867. There are no parents given when a James Crossett married Nancy Kennedy. https://www.rootschat.com/links/01sd1/
Likewise, no parents given when James married Kate Vorhees but he is age 39 so born abt 1834.
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01sd3/  Seems most records say 1834ish.
James' father was John but there is a difference of opinion as to James' mother.  There is a tree which says Mary which I don't believe, largely because John was a widower when he died in Ireland in 1878 but Mary supposedly died in 1879 in PA. Another says mother Annie Foster which is possible, in my opinion.
Would there be an obit which might help with this family? Thanks for any help
Peggy

My opinion was that brother-in-law was an error but in case I was not thinking correctly, I posted the question. Thanks CaroleW.

William Crossett was born between 1845-1850 in Coolshinney, Co. Derry, father Richard, as per William's marriage to Matilda Watters in 1877 in Lecumphur.
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01scl/
In 1907, William and Matilda's daughter Annie Mary (baptised as Mary Ann June 2, 1879) born in Ballymuckleheany, died Nov 9, 1907 in Coolshinney. Her obit lists an uncle James Crossett and an uncle Doctor Crossett. My problem is that in 1911, the census has William and Matilda on it, with a brother-in-law James Crossett age 73, single. So, a brother-in-law means that James either married a sibling of William's or a sibling of Matilda's.  I can't find such a marriage. And if James married a sibling, how can he be single in 1911? Am I missing something? thanks for any help. Peggy

I have written to a descendant of John Hartford Lennox but their online tree does not have dates of death for William and Mary so don't think they have the dates either. Will let you know.

That is great, RunKitty. Further establishes he was alive in 1871. Thank you. Strange that we can’t find deaths for him and his wife.

This is the Richard Lennox who had a hotel in Yorkville in 1871 and I have linked him to his parents in Ireland who were Hugh Lennox and Letitia aka Eliza Ditty. Note all the Kerr children in the household as Richard's wife was Elizabeth aka Mary Kerr and they married Jan 19, 1869 in Toronto. Richard died Apr 14, 1929 in Los Angeles. I don't know if he was connected to William and Mary that we are looking for.

I think Richard Lennox's hotel was in Yorkville, Ontario as per city directory of 1875.
Lennox Richard, Yorkville inn, 74 Yonge

I found this on Lennox's hotel but not sure if it is the same bldg. as address seems different.

Lennox's Hotel, formerly known as Bird's Tavern and as Charlton's Tavern, on Queen Street West, east of Bay Street. According to Robertson's landmarks of Toronto, it was built in 1827. Toronto, Canada.

Thanks for additional info. With regard to Elizabeth Lennox Ferguson, her husband Andrew Ferguson died Mar 27, 1962 and her son Andrew Lennox Ferguson died Feb 2, 1962 in Pasadena but his usual residence was in Vancouver, same address as when his mother died. Elizabeth's niece Elizabeth Lennox would be her brother John H.'s daughter and of course her brother was James Thompson Lennox who died in 1958. Just wish I could find the dates of death of the parents as I have a lot of Lennox baptisms in Ireland and would like to connect William Sr. to a family in Ireland, if I can.
Great to know the name of the hotel as that might just help to find William's death. Wonder if Market Square, corner of Front, is also the same place as 58/60 Front/Palace.
You have been a great help.
