Thanks for the post Robert.

Grateful for any information about the Steens of Skegoneill.
Do you know if this James Steen was married to Mary Ann Glendinning, or what was his wife's name ?
Why wasn't he buried in the Clifton Street family plot ?
What became of his son Henry Jones Steen ?
Was our Mary Ann Steen, born about 1840, his daughter ?

Appreciate any help ... Jim

Australia / Beaconsfield General Cemetery, Tasmania

Wondering where the grave site plan and burial records can be found for the Beaconsfield General Cemetery in Tasmania.
Would like to locate the grave of Christina WALDUCK nee Lewis who died in Nov 1942 - some records indicate she was buried in the Methodist section however she is possibly in the Presbyterian (one record says this and her mother was a Cameron from Scotland) She is the 2nd wife of Thomas Henry WALDUCK but is not in the Walduck grave near the front gate.
Also looking for the gravesite of William Henry MICHAEL who died in Apr 1907. His wife Caroline Ferris MICHAEL nee Browne died in Nov 1910 and son Henry Frederick MICHAEL died in Nov 1902 - they are  in the Methodist Section at Beaconsfield and likely to be together.

Grateful for any assistance.

Thanks Trish - had considered that one, but felt it was not too far from Finsbury and fitted also as the first marriage of the other Edward in business around there at the time.
On my line both father and son were shoemakers close to the University, and of young Edward's eight surviving children two sons were tailors and three daughters married tailors. Perhaps indicating some generational connection to Cambridge.
My g.g.grandfather William Beckett 1813 -1864, worked for Clays, the printers for Cambridge University Press from the mid 1800's to early 1900's

Hi Selina,

Sorry for the lateness of this thanks for your post regarding the lack of a marriage for Edward Beckett in Cambridgeshire or other connection with Great St Mary's.
Our first Edward was a Shoemaker in Cambridge in 1791, and was there in 1777 when his son was christened. There was an Edward Beckett, Mustard Manufacturer in Finsbury from 1760's to c 1800 with several marriages over that period, thus 'appears' to be a different family.
Elizabeth may have been from another county and the marriage took place there and unfortunately has not shown up in IGI or elsewhere.
Appreciate the help.
Regards
Jim

Wales / Re: Michael Family in Wales

Canada GN,
Interested to hear from you - wondering how your family line connects to Jacob Michael and Rosetta Hart.
The Walduck Family Tree on Ancestry may have some info for you, along with several other of the trees there.
There is a need to find the Jewish Records for Swansea and Penzance in order to document the earlier Michael and Hart families. The Cambrian Index Online has some valuable family newspaper reports.

Hi Angiy,
I had noticed another Michael family around Oystermouth and thought they were probably from a more local Welsh family. If you think they arrived in the area about 1800, maybe this is another branch ??
Assume you have access to census records - anyhow I looked at returns for 1841,1851,1861 and 1871 and noticed the 1841 census listed Thomas Michael Junior, a Fisherman at Mumbles Village with wife Margaret(nee Brown married SepQ1837 in Swansea) and children Charles born 1838 and Elizabeth born late 1840. Later censuses list other children as Sarah J born 1845, Thomas born 1849, Margaret A born 1852 and George born 1854.  Thomas later married Susan Lewis nee Hill in 1862 in Swansea - she was born in South Molton, Devon abt 1827, her father was Richard Hill born 1796 at Johnstone, Devon. She had at least two Lewis sons Thomas b1852 and Richard b1856 then a daughter Susanna b1868 with Thomas Michael.

From this it seems the father of Thomas Michael jnr born c1810-15 in Mumbles/Oystermouth was Thomas Michael snr, perhaps a cousin of John Michael and David Michael sons of William Michael and Ann Jone - refer to IGI Ancestral file. Unsure of connections here as there are Michaels variously dispersed throughout Wales. Then there are the Welsh patronymics  ....

Hope this helps a little,
Regards ... Jim
