Sussex / Re: Breeds of Hastings and Rye
« on: Thursday 28 February 19 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Campsie,
I have the answer to your mystery.  Joseph Breads married Susannah Fagg 18 Aug. 1756 at Lydd. I didn't find the marriage to Mansfield either, and I believe that came from an assumption made by someone a few years ago, based on the fact that Joseph and Susannah's daughter Anne, had the middle name Mansfield.  I descend from Joseph and Susannah's daughter Sarah who was born 3 March 1773 at Lydd. The spelling is "Breade" on both the marriage and birth of Sarah - LDS Family Search.

Richard Eastwood died at Tenterden ....age at death indicates he was born c. 1760.
I have reason to think he was from Burwash/Mayfield Eastwood family but if
that is correct, his birth is missing.

Jonw65, yes Robert Farndell is an assumed brother but I have no record of his birth/baptism.

Hi Sillgen and Jonw65.........I sent Jo Anne a private message.  I am also a descendant of John Breeds and Ann Farndell.  I don't have any documents as proof, but my research says her mother was Patience Farndell and her father was Richard Eastwood. I have scoured the internet but have not located Richard's birth or baptism, and the only possible match I have for Patience is a Patience Varndell born 1763 at Old Basing, Hampshire.

Hi again,
Just wanted to add that on the 1911 census
still in Tunbridge Wells District
Henry's year of birth is c. 1860
which is more accurate.

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Census - Any pre 1901 - Hughesman

Hi

I have been drawing a blank when it comes to finding anything about my Great Grandfather, Harry Hughesman, pre 1901.    ???

Harry , (possibly Henry or Harold, but Harry on the 1901 Census), was born about 1867 and lived in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  The Census entry states he was born in Tunbridge Wells but I can't find anything for him before this. I do know he married Lily (aka Lillie) Streeter, also from Tunbridge Wells.  I am wondering whether he might have come from a travelling family?

Thank you so much for any help!  :D
Best wishes,
Sue Bryant

Hi Sue,
Henry Thomas Hughesman b. Oct. Q. 1858 Malling Kent (includes Aylesford)
Henry Thomas Hughesman died July Q.1912 Tonbridge

In 1871, Henry (born Aylesford c. 1859)
was living with parents Robert and Jemima Hughesman

Robert Hughesman married Jemima Dobell who was born in 1833 at Maidstone

Jemima's parents were Nathaniel Dobell and Sarah Goodwin

I just read the Will of my 4th g. grandfather Amos Dobell and discovered he
had sons I didn't know about.........Nathaniel and Benjamin.
This led me to find Nathaniel's marriage to Sarah Goodwin.
My 3rd. g. grandmother was Mary Dobell daughter of Amos and his first wife Mary Farmer.

Amos married a second time to Mary Poulter and I knew they had a daughter Martha.

Nathaniel and Sarah had sons Alfred Poulter Dobell, and Sydney Goodwin Dobell,
so Nathaniel must have been a son of Mary Poulter.
Nathaniel died at Maidstone in 1832 so I don't have him on a census record.

Just found this today so more work to be done........just thought I'd post it in case
you had not yet solved your mystery.

Regards,
Foxglove

Travelling People / Re: Eastwood family - travellers, Kent, 1860's

Sorry, forgot to include marriage details for Richard Eastwood,
sent to me by a cousin in the UK, from the KFHS cd's :

Ebony marriage banns 1823 Richard Eastwood ba Ebony  Patience FARNDELL
(no parish given for Patience)

Farndell is extremely uncommon in Kent, so I am positive she was my
Patience who was born c. 1765.

Hi,
John Breeds b. 1851(husband of Alvina Eastwood) was the nephew of my 3rd. g. grandfather John Breeds, b. 1801 at Tenterden Kent.

My John Breeds married Ann Farndell at Ewhurst Sussex in 1820.

Ann Farndell attended the death of Patience Farndell at Tenterden Kent in 1842.
Patience was a "Hawker of Goods"....she was 77 years old at time of death,
therefore born c. 1765.

Patience Farndell married Richard EASTWOOD at Ebony Kent.

Patience had a son Richard Farndell at Windlesham Surrey in 1788.
I believe he is the same man who used the name Richard "Isted" when he married Ann Fuller at Salehurst Sussex
in 1808. They had 3 children born at Ewhurst, Sussex with the name Isted.
This Richard "Isted" was "of Tenterden" at the time of his marriage.

12th Oct. 1794, at Sandhurst (near Etchingham) Kent, William Eastwood was baptised......son of Patience "Furnell" and Richard Eastwood.......I have not found any trace of this William Eastwood since his baptism.

My Ann Farndell has reported that she was born c. 1806 at Robertsbridge Sussex but there is no such record.

Two more relevant baptisms:
Mary ISTED bpt 10 Dec 1797 Lamberhurst KEN
Ann ISTED 28 Apr 1801 Herstmonceux SSX

An Isted researcher told me that the above Mary and Ann were children of
Patience and Richard ISTED who were TRAVELLERS......this according to the
baptism records.

Ann "Isted" b. 1801 at Herstmonceux, could possibly be my Ann Farndell
but I have no proof.

I am told by two different sources, one a Breeds and one an Eastwood, that the Eastwoods used the alias "Histed" and variations, at one time.

Mrs. Ann Breeds (nee Farndell) witnessed the marriage of
John HAWKINS and Charlotte Ansell at Tenterden 25 March 1828
my notes from parish registers indicate John Hawkins was a Traveller.

Ann Breeds also attended the marriage of Robert Farndell to Maria Russell
at Tenterden 18th March 1828......I believe Robert was Ann's brother.
Shortly after this marriage a Removal Order was issued to Robert and Maria,
sending them to Salehurst, Sussex.....Robert is shown as Robert Farndell
alias "Hysted" on the Removal Order.

I need help in finding more information on this Richard Eastwood
as I believe he was my 4th g. grandfather.

Patience Farndell's approx. year of birth 1765 gives an indication
of when Richard was born......I haven't found a birth or a death
or any census record for him.

I wonder if John Hawkins was related to Philadelphia Hawkins who
married William Eastwood.....and is "my" Richard related to William.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Foxglove.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Census request for Frittenden Kent

Hi Daz,
Thank you.....this does look interesting.  It's been a long time since
I thought about this family.
The COGGER name is familiar because I have
a Mary Cogger
married to John Friend at Snave in 1792 and from memory
the bondsman was Wm. Cogger

Dec. 19, 1835 Ann Furmenger married an Edward Cogger at Hawkhurst.

I'll have to review the information about the Forward/Butler family.

Thanks,
Foxglove
