I am looking for some information on the full names and connections of a Mr Etheridge who died in Yeovil in Nov 1836. I have a diary entry as follows:
Poor Mr Etheridge died on the 2nd of November 1836 his funeral sermon was preached by Mr Jukes at his chapel on Sunday Evening Novr 13th 1836.
This leads me to believe he was a nonconformist and his funeral may have been at a Baptist chapel.
I have found a reference to an article in the
Bridgwater and Somersetshire Herald, 27 April 1831, which refers to: Mr Jukes – dissenting minister, Yeovil and the execution of a highwayman. I have not seen the actual news item. Another news item 3 Dec, 1832, J. Jukes - Yeovil Board of Health along with Mr Wellington and Dr Penkivil.
I believe that Mr Wellington is George Wellington who was a former portreeve of Yeovil. He is an ancestor of mine.
Can anyone fill in information on:
A: Who was Mr Etheridge who died in Nov 1836. He may be related to a Henry Etheridge who was a real estate and insurance agent in Yeovil in about 1844.
B: Who was Mr Jukes (dissenting minister) in 1831? Is he the same man in the 1832 news article about Yeovil Board of Health? Is he the same man who preached the sermon in "his chapel" in 1836?
The dates do not appear to support that this as the renowned dissenting minister Andrew John Jukes (1815-1901), as he would only be 16 years old in 1831 and 21 years old in 1836.
