Thanks very much for your help and replies - I had hoped that there might be someone who had access to St John's Parish Register, because as you say, most online records later than about 1939 are not available. So it looks as though I will need to go to RO.

Please can anyone help? I know that:
Sidney Allen married Emily Forrest on 14/10/1939 in St John's Church, Old Trafford.
Is there anyone who has access to this record and could tell me what it says?

Thank you very much - that's brilliant Colin.
I had some of it, but not all, so I'm very grateful. I'm really hampered by not having access to the Baptisms for Howden from about 1543 - 1702.
I'm still trying to work things out, but I now know that there were 2 James Woodsworth/Wadsworth, father and son, one baptised on 19/4/1600 and the other on 17/1/1629/30.
The first one married Mary Petwardine on 27/10/1626 in Howden.
But I have also just found another marriage for a James Woodsworth and Emot Smyth or Andrew on 17/5/1656, so am working to see if I can find out which James it was! Good job I like challenges!

When I go onto familysearch now, I seem to be automatically redirected to FindMyPast, (which I do not have access to).

Also, I have found online transcripts for most of the Howden Parish Registers, apart from the one that covers Baptisms from about 1659 to 1702 - this, from what I can see, is only available on FindMyPast!

Hence my posting on Rootschat, but at least I now know who John's father was, (and have now got his marriage etc), thanks to your kindness.

I know that John Wadsworth (or Woodsworth) was born about 1680/1 in Howden.
I'd be very grateful if anyone could look up his baptism, which hopefully would shed some light on his parents.

Yes that's Stanley on the 1939 Register.
He was born in 1913 in Skelmanthorpe; I have looked there and Emley and Scissett, but I cannot find this marriage. Hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on this!

I used to have access to FindMyPast, but not anymore - hence I cannot check this out myself.

I have seen the Attercliffe record, but I also seen the one supposedly from Sheffield Parish Church BTs, (or at least that is what I think the transcript stated). I just wondered if there has been a mix up with the records?

I believe that the following record has come from the BTs for Sheffield, Parish Church (Sheffield Cathedral):
Bapts 1769
Feb  9  James  s of  John Heaton  Tilter
(NB the top of this page is missing, and I have relied on the transcript)

BUT I have checked the PR for Sheffield, Parish Church, and I could not find this record!

Also, there is a vey similar record, which I believe is:
Attercliffe, Bapts 1769
Feb 9  Jams  s of John Heaton  Filesmith

So, I think it's the same child, (with the father's profession being wrongly stated on one of the records), but don't know if the baptism took place in Sheffield, Parish Church or Attercliffe.
I'd be very grateful for any help,
