Travelling People / Re: William (Bunble) Cooper
« on: Sunday 30 September 12 22:03 BST (UK)  »
I've been looking into this for a week now...with a combination of harvesting information from threads on this board and other traveller message boards and some detective work in the BMD index, I have gathered a lot of information. However, there are still a lot of missing pieces to the puzzle which I'd appreciate some help with.

First, a few errors/comments:

Hi Sanda

I have no marriage for william and amy, In the book that was wrote i found he was with a Amy Deacon they settle around mitcham common surrey. I have some of her sibings.. I found some other children of theirs but no dates of birth for some them, they had 7 children in all Minty, amy,Levy,Jasper,Rachel,Reuben,Emily Then i found unity cooper so their must of been 8? children  unity i found married Venus Pidgeley 1919 seven Oaks kent. Hope this all helps?

I think you're confusing generations here.

William and Amy had the following children: Amy, Patience, Unity, Rachel, Levi, Elizabeth.

The final child, Elizabeth married Darby Smith and had the children you mention.

Found Amy with her parents and siblings in 1881 as DEEKINS/DEAKINS living in a tent at Cheam, Surrey:

...
Un-named Female Infant aged 3 months born Cheam, Surrey
...

The unnamed female would turn out to be Rebecca Deakins.

Now I'm completely confused! I had also found Unity marying Venus PIDGELEY but no mention of some of the other children you have now named. You also haven't included Elizabeth (wife of Derby) in the list of children. So was she really the daughter of William/Bundle and Amy?

You are correct. See my comments above.

If anyone else is researching this family and wants to swap info, please let me know.

The book arrived today, but there was only a passing reference to the Franklins in it.

P.S. Check your private messages.

Thanks for the link, just ordered a copy :)

I've got a pretty incomplete record of the family (it's all in a GEDCOM file together with references to all the sources I've used), however we may be able to fill in some gaps on each others understanding. Would you like to swap info?

nightnurse51, that would be MUCH appreciated. It sounds like the right one as I received her death certificate a short while ago and it says she was born 11 Sep 1891. I'd be very interested to see your dossier.

The Ted entry puzzles me. I have an Edward with a DOB of 4 Sep 1895.

Hi berri,

Richard and Lucy were my direct ancestors. Their son Job married Christiana Powell, and they had a son called William Francis Franklin, who was my g-grandfather. His son was Thomas Franklin who jumped the railway bridge in Coulsdon in 1957 (my grandfather).

I haven't been able to go any further back than Richard and Lucy, and I haven't looked into the marriages/children of Job's siblings.

Do you have a link to the book?

Whilst I can't be 100% sure, I'm going with the assumption that, yes, that is her death record.

I didn't know of that 1911 census record, but looking at it makes me wonder if it's a different family from the 1901 census:

- It says that John is only 7 years older (not 10)
- The gap between husband and wife's ages has shortened from 7 years to 2 years
- Amey has changed to Alby
- Edward seems to be an only child as opposed to having at least 5 siblings
- John is now a greengrocer instead of travelling gypsy

Thanks for having a look. I'll try and get the marriage certificate.

aa1webb - He could figure into it somewhere, but I haven't quite got that far back yet :)

jew - it's certainly possible. I haven't yet come across a Harriet - what timescale are you talking about?

Casalguidi - this is what I know for sure: Lavinia Cooper married a William Walter Reading in 1916. The marriage record says her father was called John Cooper. The only person I can find in the Surrey area called John Cooper on the 1901 census with a daughter called Lavinia/Lavenia was married to a woman called Amey (he was also the only John Cooper that was a travelling gypsy). I couldn't find John and Amey's marriage, but I found someone with a similar tree to mine on Ancestry, and their John Cooper married an Elvinia (for which I can find a marriage record in 1872). They haven't answered my messages, so right now, that's all I've got.

Yes, that's the one. The problem I have at the moment is confirming that my g-grandmother Lavinia was indeed the daughter of the Elvinia we've mentioned. I have the marriage you mention as happening on 13th Feb 1872 at St Saviour. I'm reticent to start going further back until I am reasonably confident that I'm on the right line. Another confusing factor is that Elvinia seems to be called Amey in some Census forms (like 1901) - that's what makes me doubt the lineage.

How do these people fit into your tree?

Parents Edward Dixey and Sarah Eastwood.

Nel, I am extremely interested in everything you know about these two. I believe they had a child who was called Cinementy (or some variant) - I'm her descendent and I cannot find anything about her! Could you shed any light?
