Thanks for all this Patrish and Gnu...
I got al ist of names passed from a 2nd party from a very elderly lady who had done the family tree before internet days ! everything she wrote has proved 100 % correct throught the records i have found, she had a very basic list of names , birth years and towns of origins written on a piece of paper, and bless her it is all right ,i basically i come from a line of 3 Alfred Garretts and then the earliest found Garrett was William born in Norwich , who married Margaret Hall from Brancepeth Co. Durham, i had never even heard of this place, but have since found it ! and also that ther is a Hall Family pressense in the area ( thanks for that FreeGen tip, it is bouncing me off, but i'll keep trying )
William is easier to track as he is at the Carey Street address for at least 2 decades, and then moves over to Camberwell with his son, my great x 2 grandfather Alfred Garrett. After nearly 2 years of looking i found last week the couple recorded as Darrett ! William of Norwich the Bootmaker and Margeret of Brancepeth ..so bingo, and they were in excactly the area they should be . I was working there last week and went to Carey Street , but 34 is no more !
They had at least 4 children
Henry born 1819
Frederick 1822
Caroline Margaret 1824
Alfred 1828
All born Holborn (sometimes Bloomsbury?St Clement Danes -all virtually the same place)
As Henry comes along when Margaret is around 23 years old, i had this pegged down as a first marriage , although you can't be sure .... yes, it seems likely the marriage was in London, as this seems the only common theme , i can't find any other Hall from Brancepeth migrating down to London in the census, Maybe Margaret came alone to go into service or a job like that.
Cannot find any birth records for these children, but on marriage records father William is recorded, not the mothers details.
I am wondering if Caroline is a famiy name as Margret is buried under Margaret Caroline , her daughter is Caroline Margaret, and the Carolien name is passed on a few times more... maybe this can help with the Brancepeth crowd ??
Thanks for all this ! Who are you Miss Margaret ??
