Megs & Kiltiglassen,
Gibbons name does not have a big footprint in Co Donegal, but they are there!

Cheers

Thanks Kiltiglassen,
we can rule out the Clondahorky townland.
I am leaning towards the Donaghmore parish because the McClures and Elliotts had strong ties [family & religious] to this parish. The Dills not so.

Ok troops i need your assistance. Looking for persons that may have knowledge of the Elliott, McClure & Dill families of the Beaghy townland in Co. Donegal. This is my thread and i have little information on them or their family connections.   Betty   McClure of Breaghy.b.?.d.?.m.Daniel ELLIOTT of Drumurphy. Betty's sisters married into the Dill family of Springfield. Time frame 1725 -1775.

Several of my family connections 'dabbled' in gold prospecting in the 1850'1860's. George Gilbert moved to near Darlingford  on the Big River, in Victoria. He looked for gold. But since his ancestors were men of the land he and his sons were very good horsemen. My wifes family of Shannon's journeyed to the Ballarat & Bendigo goldfields from Kapunda in South Australia. Samuel McClure is said to have worked in the South Gippsland gold field at Foster.
The overriding theme for these fosickers was that they did not strike it rich. They found some but returned to the rural expertise that they were good at.

KGarrard - small correction. The Ovens River and Wangaratta are in Victoria. In the 1850 - 1875 time frame to get to the Ovens Gold fields or Upper Goulburn [Jamieson area] and from Melbourne to Sydney you would probably have passed thru Longwood, Vic.

Canada / Re: Nairn family - Ontario
« on: Tuesday 13 February 24 05:51 GMT (UK)  »
A Scottish (Fife) Immigrant was Anne Nairn she married John Cuthbert (m 1860).  Buried in Cartwright Cemetery, Durham County.  One daughter Agnes m. James Gordon a number of children.

Anne's youngest brother David Nairn b.1835, Kettle Fife.  He married Elizabeth Jackson and had a family of about 12.  Son John's headstone in Goldboro, Manitoba gives David and Elizabeth's deaths in 1898 and 1897 - I think in Ontario but haven't found a record.

Anyone know what happened to  They appear in 1891 Canada Census but not 1901 - perhaps most emmigrated to USA?

Sisters Isabella & Annie and brothers John, Michael James, Albert Walter, Percy Jackson & Orwell Alvan are in 1901 Census, having moved to Manitoba.

Good luck AdmiraltyCat in your search.
Just to clarify a couple of your comments -
children Agnes 1865, David 1868, Robert 1870, William 1876, Margaret 1878, Charlotte 1880.
Children of whom?

They appear in 1891 Canada Census - Where?

Sisters Isabella & Annie and brothers John, Michael James, Albert Walter, Percy Jackson & Orwell Alvan  - I assume Annie and David?
1901 Census, having moved to Manitoba. - 1901 Census in Manitoba or before they moved?

I am researching the Nairn family of Fife. The family unit that i have an interest in has a footprint in the following places - Ardbroath - Angus, Cupar, Abbottshall, Auchtamuchty, Kircaldy, Minimail, Portmoak, Moonzie, Auchtaderran. Some of these places are very near to Kettle [Kingskettle].

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Bakers Bristol & surrounds
« on: Thursday 18 January 24 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for an entry in trade directories around the Bristol area of a Baker by the name of Filer. My Gilbert ancestor George Gilbert with his family was reported to have spent their last night in the area with the Filers before migrating to Australia. Their left London on 10th October 1857 aboard The Wildranger.

cheers
