A very long shot here as I look for two SKELLY sisters , who in about 1911 or 12 were in Russia.  They returned home to Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1817 at the outbreak of the Russian revolution.  One sister was a governess and the other an interpretor.  How do I access any travel information either in the UK or in Russia?

Thank you so much for following through with James.  I will indeed make note of the spurious child!  Something may come up to link him with my lot.

Thank you Alan.  I have been here before and remember that I couldn't find a son Robert for this couple although I did find 2 younger sons with Skelly as a middle name.  (from memory b. 1821 and 1824)  I will look up my records to confirm.  This time round I may just unearth some more information.  I am most appreciative of this lead and will see where it takes me this time.
Paddy.

Thank you for your reply Audrey.  There is very little I can give you.
Robert Douglass married Elizabeth Atkinson and they had:
Elizabeth A. ( Possibly Atkinson) b.1838 named after her maternal grandmother
Isabella Skelly b.1839 named after her paternal grandfather?
John b.1841 named after his paternal grandfather ?
Jane 1843
Joseph b.1845 named after his maternal grandfather
Robina b.1847
Alexader b.1851  (out of wedlock) named after his father Alexander Marshall ?

My line is from Jane.
This family are in Spittle on the 1841 census and then split up on the 1851 census after Robert's death in 1847.

Karenlee,
Many many thanks for 3 exciting messages.  Without any birth or marriage records for this couple, I have been obliged to calculate their birth years from the 1828 Australian census and the London trials of each of them.
I doubt that Mary,Harriot and Edward are their children since the target couple had their son Edward baptised in 1814, at St Mary Magdalene.  The two St John Hackney references look as if they are the same family - but not the target one.
All very interesting, particularly Ann Townsend's baptism at St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey.
Did the Hackney Edward have an occupation recorded?
Paddy.

Thank you Janis.  No I don't know the ocupation of John.  In fact I don't know anything of Robert 1814-1847 family.  For years I have been chasing Roberts to tie in with Isabella Skelly whom I thought was Robert's mother and have just recently come up with the idea that Robert's father might be John.
