Dear Ann Marie,
thanks so much - glad you're back! I'm heading to Scotland from Australia in May and plan to visit a few cemeteries. It'd be a big help if you could do a look-up on the Tanahill, Hill, Bell or O'Neill/Neill family in Girvan please. I can be more specific with names & dates if that is too broad. Thanks heaps (I'm sure my husband will thank you too if we have an actual headstone to find instead of wandering around... - not that I mind!)
Cheers
Louise

DEar Richard,
how interesting - I was just looking at this post yesterday after many months  and the next day - there you are! I hate to disappoint you but I do not believe we have a connection. My James Glen (born 1821ish) married Mary Brown (born1826 in Greenock) in Port Elizabeth, SA 4 Dec 1847. They had 3 children tthen travelled to Australia in 1854.
Cheers
Louise

Helen died in Melbourne, Australia in 1892 with the name of Ellen FOULDS.
I am VERY baffled by the DOB of her children as there is conflicting information from the Death Certificates available and I cannot locate 3 of her daughters births registered in Australia or her 2nd marriage certificate. So I shall give you to info as I have it, conflicting as it is ........
She and William THOMSON had; Sarah DOB 14/04/1850 in Belfast.(Ulster Historical Foundation)
                                               Helen DOB        ? 1853 in Belfast died 1855 (Aust) 2yrs 4 months
Jane DOB         ? 1856 in Aust
                                                Ellen DOB         ? 1863 in Aust died 1892 (Aust)Age 28 yrs

Married James FOULDS               Elizabeth           ? 1862 in Aust died 15/04/1864 .Age14 months
                                               Elizabeth     6/04/1866 died 1912 age 46 yrs
Just to add to the confusion, James FOULDS death certificate states he married Ellen in 1861!

Weeaza,
I have a very tattered original Marriage Certificate from 1847 with the details on it. I also bought a copy through SP in the hope it may give more info. It gave me the detail that William was a printer, but little else. (I often look at that piece of paper that has been around the world, carried from house to house and has (luckily) ended up with someone who treasures it)

Thanks for your info - well, that will rule that visit out! I imagine the records would have gone elsewhere - Scotland's People or another repository?

Lanarkshire / REGENT PLACE CHURCH

Hello All,
I'm visiting Scotland from Australia next year (Yi ha) and I have details of my GG grandmothers original 1847  marriage certificate. It states she was married in Regents Church Glasgow with James Taylor being the minister. My question is, Do  church's allow visitors to visit  and check out their records? Or are all the records kept elsewhere? Would the records list her parents? I have hit a brickwall with Helen Muir and would like to take advantage of being "on site" so to speak. Looking forward to your replies, Many thanks.

Dear Elaine
thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I do have those other death dates (but I also put the names etc in just in case there were any descendants reading!)
