Hello David - I have recently discovered this post exchange Re: John Read of Chewton Mendip/Bedminster, and found your contributions very valuable.
Would like to know if you or any of the other contributors have found any further data on this family group since 2010? John Read was my 4th Ggf.
Thanks very much, Anna

Cornwall / BARTLE of Cornwall
« on: Sunday 17 July 11 21:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello there!
The last postings I'm aware of for the Bartles were in 2008, primarily between moderator Kris (krisesjoint), "mummabwown" and "Mausie".

The relevance of these postings for me is that I'm a desc of William & Phillip Bartle's brother Edward, bpt Jan 3, 1818 in Crowan. They were all the sons of James Bartle & Grace Trevean. James was the son of John Bartle & Temperance Tregenzo. I have data that goes back as far as James Bartle & Jane (1687-1718) and poss to James' father William bc 1657. (Still working on this part. But all the rest has been verified by many researchers.)

Wm & Phillip were mentioned in these postings and previous others:

Hi,
I have information for you on your John Daw Martin and Elizabeth Ann Martin, nee Bartle. My husbands great-grandfather was Philip Bartle, b1857, brother to Elizabeth. And yes his third wife was Grace Martin, John's sister.
He initially lived in SA, then Broken Hill, NSW, and then went to Kalgoorlie, WA.
Philip and his brother William Henry Bartle, b 1855 emigrated to Australia sometime between 1862 and 1878. William married Jane Hicks in 1878, that's the earliest record I've found so far in Australia.
Their parents were Philip and Sarah Bartle, nee Mitchell.
Philip's parents were James Bartle and Grace Trevean.Would love to make contact with you, Cheers Mausie

Mausie,

I see those two Gwinear baptisms (BARKELL) I think one of those must be your man. Looking at it I see James was buried in St Erth 21 Dec 1823 aged 44 (of Crowan)
Could be interesting to note that John 4 Apr 1824 aged 72 and Temperance 19 May 1824 aged 75 were buried in St Erth. (Both listing res as Gwinear)
John BARTLE tinner of Gwinear = Temperance TREGENZO 18 Nov 1775 St Erth

(All that info agrees with what we have. But had no idea Wm & Phillip ended up in Australia! But my direct ancestor, James, son of Edward Bartle & Ann Prisk, ended up in Pennsylvania. That could be why Phillips' wife Sarah went there bef Australia:

What I'm curious to know is whether more info on this family has been found by anyone since then. And I will also share whatever I have, which is extensive re the fam in Cornwall at least.
Thanks very much, Anna
