Unfortunately not. They said bank check is their only accepted payment method. Surprising and frustrating.

Ireland Resources / National Archives Dublin

Hi All,

There is a record I'd like a copy of at the National Archives in Dublin. Unfortunately I'm in the U.S. and they only accept bank checks in Euros and the bank says they can't do that.

Does anyone know of a service in Dublin where someone could go do this for me and mail me the copies? I would need to pay them with credit card or some other electronic payment method.

Thank you,
Brenda

Cavan / Castlerahan, Cavan - Sanford
« on: Saturday 14 October 23 04:20 BST (UK)  »
James Sanford is listed in the 1821 Census - Castleraghan, Castlerahan, Cavan, Ireland. His age was listed as 75 on the census. He appears to be a widower living with children, grandchildren and a couple of servants.

I've located a few birth and marriage records of what appear to be family members, but no other real record of James, his wife, or anything else about him on Ancestry or FindMyPast.

The reason I'm so keen on learning more is that I have a line of Sandfords that I don't know much about pre-1830's and I found a cluster of DNA matches on Ancestry linking me to Caffrys and Reillys in Castlerahan, Cavan. I happened upon James Sanford's census mixed with the Caffrys and Reillys and thought he could be a grandfather, or at least relative of the James Sandford (b. around 1817) in my line...even though mine was born in County Tyrone.

I have a hard time believing there are no other records of this man other than one census record. Maybe there's a dusty book somewhere in Ireland providing more, but I'm at the mercy of online resources at the moment. Does anyone know of any documents online that would allow me a "deeper dive" into persons in Castlerhan, Cavan?

I know it is a longshot, but worth an ask  ;)

Thanks to all!

I found this record on RootsIreland. However, I believe the first name of father and witness (Edward) was mistranscribed. Well, one of them anyway!

Still don't know where Fenton ended up even if it wasn't Joanna Power he married though. Maybe the US or back to Ireland.

You would think Fenton would be unique, but the more you look, the more of them you find!   :(

That’s  the Leeds one though, isn’t it, not the Salford/Manchester one. :-\
Are you thinking they could be the same person?

There's a surprising number of Fenton / Finton Moores about
One in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1851

Denis Moore Head 36   b abt 1815 b Ireland
Ridget (sic) Wife 33   1818   b Ireland  (probably meant to be Bridget)
Mary Ann Moore Daughter   11   1840   b Ireland
Rose   Moore Daughter   5   1846   b Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland
Catharine   Moore Daughter 3 b abt1848   b Scotland
Anthony Moore Brother   Married      20   1831   b Ireland
Fenton Moore Nephew   Unmarried    20   1831   b Ireland

From ages this Fenton would be son of Denis and Anthony's older brother.
The Leeds Fenton has a mother born in Air (sic) Scotland. Maybe this is the same one.

This could be. The Denis Moore is my 3x GGrandfather and the family I'm trying to tie the Salford group to. I don't know Denis' older brother's name. It appears Fenton in Salford's father was John.

I realize it is a stretch, but when looking at the 1861 census for the family I see Fenton and Johanna are the same age. They are listed as Catherine's son and daughter and both married. My suspicion is they were married to each other and the census taker neglected to put "inlaw" by Johanna.

I also wondered if the person recording the wedding of "Franciscum Moore" and "Joannam Power" put Franciscum as a given name if it was the closest alternative to a Latin version of his name. If so, and that could be Fenton, Joanne BURKE of Salford was a witness at Fenton's marriage. Fenton's sister Oney/Ann Burke married John BURKE.

The Lan-OPC shows:

Marriage: 30 Sep 1860 Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, Salford, Lancashire, England
Franciscum Moore - Salford
Joannam Power - Salford
Groom's Parents: Joannis Moore & Catharinae Moore
Bride's Parents: Joannis Power & Catharinae Power
Witness: Joanne Burke of Salford; Birgitta Whelan of Salford
