Hi there,  my Mulliners were in Wybunbury/ Audlem several centuries earlier and by the 1830s were firmly Mullineux .  So I don't think our families are linked.

I have had a look  at John & Ann though and have a suggestion.   The spread of  birth years of  children of John and Ann Mulliner in Wybunbury  from  1803 till at least 1817  suggests only one couple, so although there are 3 John and Ann Mulliner marriages in Audlem  all of whom COULD have been Elizabeth's parents  I would go for John and Ann nee Littler married January 1802 in Audlem   and assume  all the other children are Elizabeth's siblings.(or at least until proved otherwise!)  I notice their 1803 son was named Samuel.  That might be a clue to John's father's name.  Hope this is of some help
warm wishes, Alison in NZ

Hi Deirdre, I see that ancestry DNA confirms we share Philip and Maria as our 3x gt grandparents and that Philip jnr was your 2x gt grandfather .  I have copies of 2 letters Philip wrote to his daughters (sent to me by another of his descendents) and a (rather stern!) photo of his wife Jane.  Am very happy to email these to you if you haven't them already.  Maybe PM me.  warm wishes, Alison

Lancashire / Re: O'NEIL Family from Prescot, Lancashire
« on: Friday 03 February 17 06:23 GMT (UK)  »
hello David,
I know this is some years since you wrote your query and may now have the information you were looking for!  But if not I can tell you some more about Thomas and Rachel as well as Thomas' parents.  We are , I think, distantly related  but it is confusing because there were 3 John O'neils born around the same time.

Any way as you say a  John O'neil was born in Prescot to Thos O'neil and Rachel formerly smith in 1812 .He has siblings Susanna, James , Thomas and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest.   His father Thomas was born in Prescot in 1777 - father Michael(died1788)  and mother Ann. He was baptised in the Portico Catholic church and this is where many of those early Prescot O'Neil records are . (sorry I don't have these records, but was given some names and dates by another researcher). I didn't ever know what hppened to this John.

Michael O'neill and Ann  had a son John born in 1787 in Prescot . He married an Elizabeth Houghton and they had a son John in 1811.  this second John  seems to be the one  who marries Margaret Hughes in 1832.  What is slightly puzzling about this John is that when he married Margaret  he gives his occupation as" blacksmith"  and this is why for a long time I thought he was part of my O'neill family.

My family is William O'Neil, a blacksmith  born 1793 probably in Prescot ,possibly the son of a Patrick who I think is  Michael O'neill's brother .William has the third John - born 1814 - who again disappears without trace (no death record)  William also has my 2x gt grandfather Edward O'Neil born 1821 in Prescot (William O'n and Charlotte nee Lyon) .

Who might be Michael & Patrick's parents?  well, there is a slightly mysterious rev. Felix O'neil who has a son John in 1740 in nearby Rainford  and later baptised when Felix is minister in Bolton le Sands.   I've not found a baptismal record for Michael but he does have a son Felix.

I hope this is some help to you  .  Are you certain your ancestor was the 1812 John?    And if you or any one else reading this  can fill in any of the many gaps about this family I would really appreciate it.

kind regards,
Alison

Hi Sylvia
thank you very much for all your information on John Edwards and his family which I had no idea of.  Are you in Australia?   I'm in New Zealand  -  my parents emigrated from Liverpool when I was 6.

I'm fairly certain that Samuel's parents were a John and Eliz as per his marriage cert & his children's names  so I did a search for Samuels born any where to a John and Eliz Edwards and found one born in Liverpool!  - a bit young maybe as born in April 1789 but probably worth  checking out further.  I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.
warm wishes

Hi Annie,
yes they were.  he and Sarah were helpfully unoriginal in their naming!
Her parents were  Edward and Anne.  His, according to his marriage cert, were John and Elizabeth.  Children in order of birth were-  Edward, John, Samuel, Anne-Elizabeth, Sarah  and finally Joseph!
Not exactly proof  but fairly convincing.  Don't know if there is anything in the fact her parents were "honoured"  first

Hi Annie,
although this baptism is too early to be Samuel - def. born close to 1787, I do think you are right about the word "Paisley" .  Even  a Welsh accent to a Liverpudlian ear  wouldn't, I think any way, make a Flintshire village name sound like Paisley. So he remains a mystery  :(

many thanks, Alison

Hi Sylvia,

I have some not so good news about Sarah and her will.  It looked such a good match with the dates and where she lived etc too BUT the 1851 and 61 censuses  unfortunately tell a different story. (you will remember that "our" Sarah is with son joseph in 51 and daughter Sarah in 61)
Here's what I've found:
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
61, Grove Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Sarah Edwards Head Widow Female 62 1789Annuintant
Leeds, Yorkshire, England

Robert Hutchison Son Unmarried Male 35 1816 General Merchant
Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Elizabeth Jackson Visitor Widow Female 67 1784 Annuitant
Leeds, Yorkshire, England   this has to be Eleanor's mother

Ann Roberts Servant Unmarried Female 32 1819 Servant
Denbighshire, Wales

Sarah Rodgers Servant Unmarried Female 22 1829 Servant
Flintshire, Wales

and 1861:
6, Canning Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Robert Hutchison Head Unmarried Male 44 1817 Gen Merchant & Shipowner
Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Sarah Edwards Mother Widow Female 72 1789
Leeds, Yorkshire, England

Annie Johnston Visitor Unmarried Female 28 1833 Governess
Dublin, Dublin, Ireland

Lydia E Whitaker Visitor Female 10 1851 Scholar Harrogate, Yorkshire, England

Rosa H Whitaker  Female 7 1854 ScholarYorkshire, England

and finally , again from 1851 a census entry where the household head is missing (Elizabeth Jackson?)
2, Park Parade, Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England
Eleanor Jackson Daughter Unmarried Female 36 1815 Annuitant
Headingley, Yorkshire, England

Henry Whitaker Brother-In-Law Married Male 41 1810 Agent For Silks Of Colton Warps
Greenholme, Yorkshire, England

Lydia Whitaker Sister-In-Law Married Female 40 1811
Leeds, Yorkshire, England

Elizabeth L Whitaker Daughter Unmarried Female 01851
Harrogate, Yorkshire, England

So I think this Sarah is the sister of Elizabeth Jackson.
They might well be both  nee Dickinson
(Eliz m. Peter Jackson 1807 in Leeds  and Sarah m. John Edwards around that time - lost my bit of paper!
But it does not explain Sarah's wealthy son Robert Hutchison! for whom I can find no satisfactory birth record.   Perhaps its as well they are not ours as they seem even more complicated than Sarah and Samuel !!

What do you think about this?
warm wishes

Hi Sylvia,  how exciting! and how neat to hear from you.  I will be home tomorrow and will check what new information I have about the Edwards.  I did wonder what happened to John as he has been the only sibling I couldn't trace - now i know why.  Will pm you tomorrow  with what info I have & would love to know about Sarah's will not to mention John's history.
warm wishes
