Hi Jean,

They used to say "A Dubble Diamond works wonders" but not, it seams, as much as Rhubarb and Apple.

If I may explain the background:  Doreen (Mum) died 2004.  Dad is still alive but two years last January he burst a lung (he has COPD) and survived 3 weeks treatment in hospital.  He could not continue living on his own in Hampshire so I brought him to live here at Bristol and his house was rented out.  Obviously there was a big clearance.  There has now bewen another as we have had to move Dad to a dementia care home.  Now, some years back Mum bought an expensive Family Tree book which she duly filled out and gave to my brother having let me - the computer nerd - copy it.  I gave her a copy on disk that Dad seems to have printed and Mum has gone on to add notes to.  I found Mum's ammended version today.  I attach one of the added pages that claims the Down family bible as it's source.

The explanation is to demonstrate I'm only just finding this out myself so please excuse me if it seems I'm not forthcoming with info.

Short answer, look at the attachment, John had a second marage.

Watch this space .....

Regards,

Julian

Hi Jean,

Oh 'ek!  I have read your post first thing this morning and I don't think that was a good idea if I am to get anything more done today.  The names and dates you have given me have left me a bit puzzled trying to reconcile them.  Too many names the same but different dates.  I was planning to go to check my father's house (rented out) n3ear Fawley on 16th Aug so if I have not got my head round it by then, it looks like I will be stopping in Great Wishford on the way back.  The research I have was done my my mother (who died some 7 years ago) but knowing her she would have taken care to get it right so ..... A glass of home brew and the computer tonight?

Hi Jean,

Thanks for getting back.  The PDF file shows the Down and Hayward lines up to my mother Doreen as far as she could take it.  I would be interested to be able to extend it if I can.  It seems to me that we can trace our tree back to a small area either side of Salisbury, whereas my wife's tree expands across countries.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for replying. :)

Actually I was quoting David.  My name is Julian.  I wonder if you missed the attachment I made that has a chart of my mothers line going back to Christopher Down and Joanne Barter, so we are related.  My mother was born in Dibden Purlieu and we still have the family house.  I visit from Bristol regularly and on one occasion on route through Hale bought a Landrover.  I am now aware of Hale's relationship to the families.

Working from my mothers chart, she has Chris and Jo marrying in 23/1/1631

See my previous for the chart.

Hi,

Attached is part of my families tree from my mother Doreen back.  I have just joined the chat and have already expanded the tree from what Logdore said.  My children's family tree is over 1000 names and goes back through my wife to the Dalasses in Scotland and back to Pepin in 714.  No, I'm not kidding so am trying to develop my side a bit.

Any ideas?

Hi Vicki,

My wife is descended from Grace Shergold, the wife of Robert Down, born Great Wishford in 1749.

I believe that her parents were John Shergold and Grace.

Any connection with your family?

Regards

David
