World War Two / How do I find more information on what my grandfather did in ww2?
« on: Saturday 16 November 13 22:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I know that my grandfather repaired aircraft during ww2 at hanworth air park, middlesex. But thats all I know. I was wondering if anybody knows how I might be able to fiind out more information about his time there, why he didnt go off to war, what exactly his job role was etc?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer

Beth

I think it must have been Willie who took the watch from my grandad after John Morris died. I just spoke to my dad who says he thought his his uncle was called Bill.

So yes I think they had different fathers, although my grandad always used the name Morris and was unaware that John Morris was not his father until the birth cert was brought up. I think that the copy I have of his birth cert (without looking to be certain) is date stamped 1937 which i think is about the year my grandad got married. On the marriage cert it lists John Benjamin Morris as his father, but he is diseased.

I think that this discovery has created a lot more questions than answers!!! The plot thickens!!!

Thank you, although just to confuse matters even more, as far as I can gather, he had an uncle who was a simillar age to him give or take a year called Glyndwr Agland.

I have no idea of the details about how he found out his "real" name, only that he didnt find out until he was an adult and needed to get his birth certificate for something. Maybe his mum fessed up?

My mum (Glyndwr is my dads dad) has told me that he managed to track down some of his family in wales and that he had half siblings but we dont know their names or anything about them. He left no clues and there is a story that after he found out that his "dad" wasnt his real dad his younger half brother insisted that he give him the pocket watch that his father had left to his eldest son, as his younger brother then discovered that he was infact John Morris's eldest son. Very sad, my grandad apparently gave him the watch and never spoke to him again.

OK so I've been trying to find my grandad on the 1911 census. His details are as follows :

Glyndwr Morris
Birth 30 Jan 1909 in Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot, Wales
Death 03 Feb 1994 in Surrey Northern, Surrey, England

His mother was Frances Elizabeth Agland born in 1889

His father on his birth cert is listed as John Davies, He is Glyndwr Davies on his birth cert
But on his marriage cert to my nan, his father is John Benjamin Morris.

I have no other info on either Mr Morris or Mr Davies.

My grandad never knew about this Mr Davies bloke until he ordered a copy of his birth cert as an adult. Apparently my great grandmother just decided to change his name to Morris one day and it stuck.

I cant find any info about my grandad, not even his birth. I have found his mother, and have found info on him as an adult ie marriage, death.

Its bugging me to the point of annoyance!!

Please is there anybody who can help??? ???

My understanding of the story is that he was registered as Glyndwr Davies, with John Davies as his father on his birth certificate.

For some reason it is thought that his mother may have remarried when Glyndwr was around 2 and changed his name, and destroyed his original birth certificate. Also it says on his birth cert that he was born in port talbot.

But I have been told that he moved up to bargoed at the time when his mother was with this Morris chap.

I am very confussed with this whole thing to be honest!
