Lancashire / Gillow Street
« on: Friday 19 May 06 10:31 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for Gillow St. which, according to the 1901 census is St. John's Ward,
N/W Manchesster, if I find that, I would like to know if there could be any school records in existence of the area for the period, 1900-1910.

TIA
gedr.

Buckinghamshire / Henry MOBBS - Lathbury?
« on: Monday 10 April 06 14:28 BST (UK)  »
I've got Henry Mobbs married at Hannington NTH in 1787, he then moved to
Newport Pagnell in 1789 and became the subject of a Removal Order together with wife and child, and sent to Lathbury BKM.

Although he was born in Leicester (1760) he must have gained settlement through his employment.
Does anyone know if there were any more of the Mobbs family in Lathbury about that time?
 Thanks, gedr.

Best wishes,  gedr.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1891 census Alice Roberts please
« on: Friday 17 March 06 14:36 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks again Tazzie,
trouble is the earliest date we have is his enlistment on 28th March 1911 at Eastney
and his discharge in 1918.
He never spoke of his childhood or even mentioned his sister, which is what makes me think he was in care, workhouse or whereever.

Seeing the entry in the 1901 census made me wonder what was an eleven year old
girl and a four year old boy doing as boarders,
the reason I followed this line was because it's the only John Henry I could find in Lancs of about the right age.

Thanks, gedr.

Hi Tazzie, I'm looking for father really, but as he joined as Marine band boy when he
was 14 in 1911, Place of birth: unknown, as the 1901 entry was the only
John Henry Roberts of the right age, to have an " ee' bah gum  " accent and that's about all we knew about him except a sister given as next of kin on his attestation,
living: c/o Lady Green, Hampstead, presumably in service, she was named as
Queenie Elizabeth.
At the moment I'm working on the theory that John Henry was in care which was why he landed in the band boy service.

Cheers, gedr.

I have Alice on the 1901 census, but have difficulty in reading her age,she is at
75 Gillow Street Manchester, with a 4 yr old listed as boarders.
I thought the 1891 would clarify the age.
Thanks, gedr.
