Armed Forces / Re: List of all Battle of Waterloo men - free lookup offer

You have a lot of information there. I've been to findmypast but haven't really found anything new except for the 1880 date of the pension increase you mentioned. My email address is reweldon@dodo.com.au if that is easier in the future. I would like to see a copy of his discharge papers please, or where to find them, and also the info about him being in Glasgow in 1852. And the new marriages etc included in your last post, although I'm not 100% with it all.
Thanks again, Rob

Hi ShaunJ, thanks for sticking with me.
The pension date and 1st Battalion of Artillery are certainly correct for my John Mills, but I am having trouble getting anywhere with your findmypast link. So I can't find any pension records. Also on the 1887 death cert you sent, do you think the age of John is 93 or 73?
It would be great if I could finally find out if John did end up back in Monaghan, so thanks very much for your help.
Rob

Thanks for that death record. John Mills didn't have a son called Samuel, and it was probably unlikely that he returned to Monaghan.
John Mills is unfortunately a fairly common name, even in the army, so I will keep on looking.
Thanks again,
Regards Rob

Thanks ShaunJ, John Mills was in France for 8 months but perhaps they didn't recognise him as he was still under age at the time.
I would really like to see proof of him still being alive in 1880 if that is possible.
Thanks very much, Rob

My ancestor John Mills was born at Monaghan in 1797 and enlisted with the Royal Regiment of Artillery as a gunner and driver, at the age of 16 in 1813. He was supposedly at Waterloo, and was eventually discharged medically unfit in 1840 at Woolwich. He received a pension but there is no record of him after that date. I would be really pleased if you could let me know any more about this man.
Thanking you, Rob

Hi, hoping you can help me with my ancestor Thomas Dawborn. He enlisted in 1806 with the 10th Hussars, at the age of 43, and supposedly born in Hertfordshire. His Waterloo medal was incorrectly inscribed as Chas Dawborn, and I would like to hear of any additional info about this soldier please.
Thanking you, Rob

My mistake, Rotherfield is certainly in Sussex

Thank you all for letting me know that it is only "submitted data". I won't be treating it as reliable, especially since Rotherfield is NOT out of the County.
Rob.

The actual image only shows the normal 'N' to not being born in the County.
There is only one Sarah Sales on the 1841 census born in 1758. It is the Edenbridge census, piece 482, book 7, folio 6, page 5.
