Ewan you have done no harm!  What your doing is getting an answer to a problem with FTM, hope you succeed. Stick with Downside, I am impressed with his apparent knowledge of computer software workings.  I don't like to strike out against any THING/BODY, however sense the Ancestry take over of the software portion of our genealogy, the only thing they are interested in is M O N E Y !!!

Thanks to everyone for the help attempts.  Nothing has worked, so I am going to "bite the bullet" and start using 2010 YUK!
I am afraid if I don't get away from 2006 I am going to loose some if not all of my file.
Thanks a million to all!!!

Ewan: I have purchased just about every version from the first that Bonderbund produced to present.  I believe you will find the program style of Version 4 is the same all the way up to FTM Version 2006.   I am having my problems with FTM2006 in my computers (Windows 7) I am going to have to use my FTM2010.  I am tired of putting in data only to have it not store in the program or have the program fault.

Oh by the way folks the only thing that the ancestry would say is:

Family Tree Maker 2006 has some compatibility issues with Windows 7 that could be causing the error message which you have received. Please download the patch from the following article to resolve this issue:

Answer Title: Family Tree Maker 2005, 2006 & 16 Update for Windows Vista & Windows 7
Answer Link: http://pastftm.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pastftm.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2777

Needless to say it does not work.  I also tried all the other suggestions to no avail, however I really appreciate the sincere attempts to solve my problem.  I am still hanging in there.  Right now my conclusion is my file maybe corrupt, if it is oh s__t.      Crackel

Downside:  It does not work after the new install.  Yes to using it to store photos, census, deeds, Etc.

That is correct, there is no reason it should not work, as it did from the onset, purchase in 2006, until just a couple of months ago.

I am going to look for a old back up and see if it will store in scrapbook.  Reason for this action will be to determine if problem is in software or family file.

Thanks also to you Downside:  I have looked and the only options I find is under Content and it is not high lighted for use.

F.Y.I. i not 15 minutes ago removed FTM 2006 and re-installed it.

Thanks Christine for your quick response, but I have had 2010 from it's con seption and it is not an easy program to sort out.  I do not like it.  Guess I am old fashioned.

Technical Help / Family Tree Maker 2006
« on: Wednesday 21 September 11 21:54 BST (UK)  »
I have been using Family Tree Maker from the onset (early 1990S).  Now all a sudden my 2006 with Vista upgrade running on Windows 7 OS, decides it will not store to any Scrapbook.  Up-comes the following: A problem has occurred in writing to your disk, please check that the disk has space  available, that it is formatted, and that the drive door is closed.  This note is a little out of place as the storage point is my contained hard drive with 200 gig of free space.

Here's hoping someone has an answer, because FTM 2008 and up is not for me.
