Hi Ali
Many thanks for that - the message was a couple of years ago and I have been making great inroads since then, The one piece of information Was the birth place of George Alden - the East Throldber is not somewhere I ahev coma across as yet. Thoole is actually Theale.

Yes that would be great if you have anything in the 1841 census, Being railway workers they moved a lot, or even where somewhere quite different after driving a train on the day of the census. Oh and by the way this is my GGGrandfather.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / ALDENS and TOCOCKS in Hampshire
« on: Thursday 08 July 04 23:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi List
I have at last via the 1871 census confirmed that my line has roots in Hampshire and I would request some help if anyone has the following in the trees.

George ALDEN born Alton 1805-1808 (parents poss William ALDEN & Mary Bagley) The IGI has a christening that matches in East Worldham 1804.

Eleanor TOCOCK born Eversley or Hartley 1817 (parents James TOCOCK & Sarah MARINER)

The above were married 9.10.1837 in Reading.

The IGI Also has a George ALDEN marrying Hannah BURELL in East Worldham in 1827.

Was this a first marriage for George ?

Can anyone link these people together or have any knowledge of the Aldens prior to William

Many Thks John

Thks for that Ele
I feel that the Clifton area is where the answer lies. The family were from that district. Now that I have a bit of a lead I will try the local libraries, Kellys etc for that period.

Hi Mary
No sorry I don't have that connection at all - and I have not come across the name Alden as a middle name. There again as it was their surname I suppose that is not that unreasonable.
