Thanks for the invite Karen.
I hope everyone can get together.
Unfortunately I have to pack up my army kit and go overseas on the first of June and won't be home till xmas.
Can't say exactly where, but its in support of our boys in Afghanistan.

Armed Forces / Second Master

Is there a way to find Royal Naval records from 1798 to 1805?

I have a John Baird who claims in a land petition to have served as Second Master for that time period and was discharged due to medical.
I would like to know what ship he served on.

Also what is a "Second Master and Pilate"?

Cumberland Lookup Requests / John Baird of Flimby
« on: Sunday 22 October 06 11:16 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a birth record of a John Baird who was born in Flimby on or around 1769 and possibly a  marriage around 1789 or a little later.  He was married a second time to a Mary Barnes at St. Marys, Carlisle in 1811.

Thanks
Glenn

Cumberland / Baird's of Flimby
« on: Saturday 14 October 06 22:01 BST (UK)  »
These are very exciting times.

I have just recently discovered the John Baird was born in  Flimby, Cumberland in 1769.  I was wondering what archive held the parish records for the time period?

This would make the John Baird at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,188303.0.html the same person and my ggggrandfather.

Thanks,

Glenn

Cumberland / Baird / Barnes Marriage Carlisle 1811
« on: Saturday 07 October 06 19:57 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping to find someone in the Carlisle area who could take this pic to the archive in Carlsile and compare it to the signature of John Baird who married Mary Barnes in St. Marys, Carlisle on 09 Jan 1811.  The signature I have is from the New Brunswick, Can. Archive.  I believe these two Bairds are one in the same.

Thanks
Glenn

Canada / Re: SHEA

Angela,

There are currantly 20 Shea's listed in the Kingston phonebook.
That could be another route.
Someone may have Garnets medals.
The MBE was created in 1918 so he would have been one of the first Canadians to recieve it.
If I come across anything I'll let you know.
