Devon / Appleton ancestors in Budleigh Salterton and Devon
« on: Saturday 07 July 12 16:55 BST (UK)  »
:) I have found so much more in my family tree research, including a doctor in Budleigh Salterton who would have been my 2nd great grand uncle.  He was married to Elizabeth Rance and they went to Canada in the 1870's.  I would love to know if any of these families are out there, and to chat and understand the emigration.

Ahoy Captain

Thank you so much.  I have looked into that family and simply cannot trace David's family in Devon - maybe I will search some Parish  records.

Would you happen to know anything prior to David?  About Mary?

That is a beautiful photograph of your Grandma - how lucky you are to have a lovely momento.
Are we related in any way or are you just very clever at researching?
I really appreciate your help - I will try this on my tree and see if there any clues once I get rid of the other Davids ...... I had traced most of this info - they lived in a Union Building in Trafalgar Road?  It is beyond imagination to think under what conditions they actually lived..............

Thank you again Cap'n

 :D Hello Ermintrude

Thank you so much for the swift reply - it is David who was either born in London or Devonport - George was definitely born in Deptford.

I didn't really expect such a swift reply so haven't got facts to hand.  I do hope that someone can help tho.

David was probably sent to Devonport at some time but there is also a birth there - I just can't put the Devon one together with what I know about George.  To some extent they must have been reasonably affluent to train a son in medicine......

Look forward to meeting you again if you can help.

Janet

The Common Room / Stuck in the 1790's!

I'm researching the Appleton side of my family and have reached my 3rd great grandfather from Deptford Kent.
Trouble is that there are about 3 Davids born about that time, each married to a Mary or Mary Ann.
My 2nd great grandfather was George and he was born in Deptford hence my assumption that David came from there.
I can find no concrete details that lead me anywhere, unless someone is better at this than me.
He was a clerk for the Navy at Somerset House and may have died nr Devonport.
His son George moved to Cornwall having become a doctor and surgeon at St Thomas's (I'm pretty sure) and 2 of his sons also became doctors in Landewednack, Cornwall.
I have seen the house George built and been shown around.
I have tracked down the record of George's marriage to Martha Maria Ellis and David Appleton was recorded as 'clerk in Sithney' - I don't know anymore - I don't know if he resided in Sithney in Cornwall or in Devon.
Can anyone help me out please?
Janet nee Appleton
