Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Hadfield death
« on: Thursday 11 October 12 01:59 BST (UK)  »
In 1851 - he was living in the Manchester Registration District.  If you assume he remained there - it cuts the list of possible deaths down to 4

1853 (2) - Lancs BMD show both as aged 70
1855 - Lancs BMD shows age 29
1860 - Lancs BMD shows it as an infant death

Are you certain he died pre-1861?
Thanks for looking at this for me, i'm now not sure he died pre 1861 because i've recently seen the 1861 census where he may be living with his daughter but the ages are unclear, but i now think it is him cos its the same address that is on my g grandmothers birth cert. Much confuselment !

LancashireBMD is incomplete but does have age at death (as per informant) for those it lists so may help with elimination:
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

The LancsOPC site has some coverage for burials as does FamilySearch - burial registers often give age.
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/
https://www.familysearch.org/

Using these together with the list of possibles from FreeBMD may cut the list significantly - good luck!

Thank you , this could be really helpful as i've never seen the Lancs BMD site before.

As all your deaths are registered in Manchester, that would be my first port of call.
Google gives address as 56 Marshall Street, New Cross, Manchester, M4 5FU. Tel: 0161 832 5284.
 :)
Thanks Goldie that's a great help, i'll give em a ring tomorrow.  :)

Hi,
Could anybody please help me find a death date for Thomas Hadfield, my ggg grandfather, who died between 1851 and 1861.
In the 1851 census he is shown as being a widowed 52 year old bricksetter living at 32 Cookson Street, New Cross, St. Philips, Manchester with his daughters Elizabeth, Emma, and his son William, he also had another daughter Ann.
Hadfield seems to be a common name in Lancs and a search on Freecen BMD threw up loads of possibilities but without much information.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you, Kevan.

Hi Kevan
I was in a similar situation once at Matlock record Office.
I explained the situation over the phone, and the nice lady there said they would only charge me for the one that was the lady I wanted - the one that fitted with other information I could give like age, address and husband's name, hence saving me having to buy 3 or 4 certificates. She even said that if none of the deaths were the right person, they wouldn't charge me or cash my cheque
You could ring Manchester and see if some kind person would do that for.
I've always found the local offices to be really helpful.

Good luck! 8)

Thank you for that, i usually buy my certs from the GRO without the personal touch so i think i 'll try the local office,do you know if there is one central office or are there offices for different parishes? thanks agaian.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / James Grimshaw death
« on: Wednesday 10 October 12 02:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Could anybody please help ?  I'm trying to get a death date for my ggg grandfather James Grimshaw.
He was a weaver in Manchester and he died between the 1851 and 1861 census.
In the 1851 census he is shown as 59 years old living at 10 Crossleys buildings, St. Georges, Manchester with his wife Mary and daughters Elizabeth and Susannah, he also had a son, Thomas Henry.
    I've located 4 possible records :
     jun 1854 manchester 8d 113,  sep 1857 manchester 8d 219,
     mar 1860 manchester 8d 88 & jun 1861 manchester 8d 155.
I don't know if any of these are his and i don't fancy buying all the certificates to find out it's not him.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ,Kevan.

« on: Saturday 25 August 12 19:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi Wozzle,
thanks for looking into this , i have the birth cert for William Barry, 1853, showing his mother as Emma Barry formerly Morrish so im assuming they were married, maybe i'll just have to take a punt for the date as about this time but i would really liked to have pinned the marriage date and details down. im dry of ideas of where else to look.
  Thanks again, Kevan.

Hello,
I'm looking for help in finding a marriage record for James Barry/Berry to Emma Morrish probably in or around the Crediton area about 1850 ish.
They are my ggg grandparents and moved from Crediton to Devonport sometime between 1851 and 1861.
James was a shoemaker and Emma a bootbinder they had 5 children. I cant find a record anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                 Thank You, Kevan.
