The Lighter Side / Go easy
« on: Saturday 31 December 16 10:09 GMT (UK)  »
I've been doing my own research into my Nottinghamshire heritage and have taken the time to read many of the threads posted.  What I notice is that there are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful people out there who over time have amassed a wealth of information and have been eager to pass it on, do research on behalf of others and give up their time all in a good cause.

Equally there are many people who are new to ancestry research and who who may not be up with the lingo or ways of searching the Internet to acquire the information they're looking for. To this end they post questions that to some of you appear stupid or irritating.

Please have a little patience with these enquirers. They're they reason the site exists so that you can share your vast knowledge. Tone down your put downs and have empathy with these people. Remember that you were once new at family history and have some respect for others. I have been appalled by some posters holier than thou attitude and rudeness.

We all want to trace our heritage and learn more and some of you pious people will have put some folks off for life. If you can't answer their questions with humility don't bother.

World War Two / 80th Airborne Anti Aircraft Battalion
« on: Monday 06 January 14 17:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, my grandfather was a US soldier with the 80th airborne anti-aircraft battalion.  He spent some time in Nottingham during WW2, would anyone know what he may have been doing there.  I think he may have been at Mansfield General Hospital which I think was a US military hospital during the war but have been unable to find any information.  Both he and my English grandmother have passed away so I have no-one to ask.

Thank you
