Thankyou very much.
I know this map well as I've poured over it a million times. Your explanation fits with what I thought. I can not log all this in my tree. ;D

Hi All,
Can anybody tell me where Great York Street, Bethnal Green was/is?? My great great grandmother was born there but when I try to find the street, or references to it I get conflicting and confusing information. Her birth was registered as being at 3 Great York Street on 3 April 1843. On the 26th June 1843 she was baptised at St Leonards Shoreditch and the address recorded was recorded as  York Street? I find researching London sooooooo confusing as districts changed regularly making finding streets near impossible. This is all made harder by the fact I'm researching from Oz.
Can anybody enlighten me? ???
Thanks
Sue

Thankyou so much for the links.
I had never heard of the Charles Booth Archive.  I can find information about just about every street my ancestors lived in, at the time they lived there, how remarkable.  ;D

Hi
I'm researching London ancestors from Australia and am wondering if anyone can give me some background on the Pickering Street Dwellings at Islington.  What exactly are/were they? I'm guessing they were used to house the poor. I did some research on the Peabody buildings and could find heaps but have come up short for the Pickering Street Dwellings, were they similar ?
I hope I posted this in the right spot, soz (sorry) if I didn't
Thanks
S

 :D Oh Wow!!!
Thanks a bunch guys.  I'll do what research I can from here using all your info. I'll have to wait until next year to see the Lloyd's List as we are planning a trip to Uk.
Much appreciated

Sue
