Hi Croftia, nice to see another relative pop up.  I am Isaac Sutherland's Great, Great, Great, Great grandson via Catherine Sutherland and her first marriage to Robert Phillips.  I am happy to e-mail if you like, its billphillips@dodo.com.au  Cheers, Bill

Hi Robincrook, my name is Bill Phillips, I am the Great, Great, Great Grandson of Robert Phillips who was Benjamin's older Brother.  Robert and his Brother William, came to Australia in 1851 and the family has flourished since that time.  Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the rest of the family who remained behind in Bockleton, with only one line continuing and unfortunately it is not Benjamin's.  Benjamin's first wife was much older than him, and there were no children.  His second wife was much younger and again there were no children.  A cousin of mine has travelled to the UK many times to do extensive research on the family that remained in England, and I know she would be thrilled to have just a photo of the clock if you find anyone closer in the UK to give it to.  I contacted her today and she is going through all her information on Benjamin, so that we can shed a little more light on his story for you.  I will be in touch again with more....   Bill Phillips

Hi Dizzy Lizzy,
I am a descendant of Thomas Woodbridge of Bonnie Doon, and would be very interested in your research.  My Father was William Donald Phillips, his Father was William Thomas Phillips and his Mother was Rosetta Phillips nee Woodbridge.  Thomas was Rosetta's Father.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Bill Phillips

Hi Daisy,
Thankyou so much for this information, it is amazing that you are able to find these records so quickly.  Are they available to view on a web site?

Thanks again Daisy,
Bill

Hi again,
I have a Catherine Levina Gunn died in Victoria 1857, but her fathers name was Abraham not John, and she is the only death listed under that name.

I have 32 William Gunn's getting married between 1857 and 1870 in Victoria alone!  You have a big job in front of you.....

Cheers Bill

Hi Jenny,
This may be unrelated, but I have a John Sutherland married to a Katherine Gunn in Caithness November 1805.  Are you able to work out if they are in anyway related to your William and Catherine, as they had a son Isaac Sutherland who also moved to Australia in 1854.
If they came to Victoria, I am happy to do a bit of research in Australia to see what I can find.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Heather,

Isaac sold almost all his land in about 1890, and I doubt he had anything left to sort out by the time he passed away in 1896.  His Grandson William Phillips and his Granddaughter Eveline Proctor purchased all his property around Bannockburn.

You are good at finding the wills and probate, so I guess this will be one you go after.....  I await your results with interest.  8)

I guess the bottom line is, no matter when or where, I am looking for anyone who can trace themselves back to any of the people I have mentioned.

I can't believe that our Phillips line which came to Australia in 1851, seems to have no living "cousins" in the U.K. or beyond.

This is a bit like fishing, I'm just waiting for a bite.......  8)

Thanks Allan,  April 1755 was the marriage banns, but I dont know if that was the same year they married.  Banns were like an engagement weren't they?

So our first record is in Laysters,Herefordshire,England.

The next record I have was in Bockelton 1789 and it was a Christening of John Phillips.

Part of the Family stayed in Bockelton at "the Birches" or "Lower Grafton Farm", and part of the family moved to Llanvihangel, Carmarthen, Wales, according to the 1881 census.

I hope this helps you work out where this should be posted.....  aghadowey.

Thanks,  Bill Phillips
