We know that John Dick Cairns was born on 12th July 1887 in the parish of Stair, Ayr.
His parents were William Cairns and Jessie McCulloch Halbert (married June 8th 1877 in Kirkconnell)
We believe he served some time in the Army during WW1 (possibly Argyll and Southern Highlanders)
He held various occupations including farm worker, drainer and french polisher.
John married Mary Glassford in Glasgow on 27th Jan 1922. They had 4 children, one of which died at 10 months old and one was Mary's son from a previous marriage.
He was found drowned at Sorn Castle Dam, River Ayr on 29th Feb 1936. He was last seen alive on 13th Jan 1936.
We have been trying to locate some newspaper articles or anything that can shine some light on the circumstances of his death. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
