Thanks John, apologies for the rather late response, but have not been on RootsChat for years until today. The Ingham family came from Chester, so no great surprise they were buried there. I wondered at one point whether because he died at Willoughby Waterleys whilst still their Parish Priest, that he would have been buried there. However, other information I have shows that his relationship with his parishioners appear to have been rather strained. I see now that the Find a Grave site has photos of the grave at Overleigh.

Margaret Anne,

Many thanks for your reply. I had almost given up hope of anyone adding any more to this thread. So by my reckoning we are probably 2 cousins 2x removed.

Best regards,

Stephen Andrews (formerly Martin)

Hi Shaun,

Many thanks for your message. Great to hear from you. I'm descended through their son John Arrowsmith who married Vera Sheppard and who are my grandparents. Who are/were your grandparents? Who are you descended from? It's great to be in touch with an Arrowsmith cousin.

John and Vera Arrowsmith had three daughters, Beryl d 1998, Pamela (my mother) d 2002 and Dawn d 2009. Beryl never married. I was the only son of Pamela. Dawn married Michael Neale and had three children, two boys and 1 girl all who live now in Mansfield.

It would be great to have a photo if you can take one and upload it. Alternatively I can private message you my email address and you send it by email.

I have lots of info on the Arrowsmith's which I would be willing to share.

Best wishes,

Stephen Andrews

Thanks  Radcliffe for your responses. I sent off an order to Durham last week for the Will of George Balmer and am waiting for them to confirm the cost.

I'll try and get in touch with North Shields Library and see if they can help.

Northumberland / Christchurch Tynemouth Gravestones
« on: Thursday 04 October 12 10:20 BST (UK)  »
Good morning to the list. I am certain that this topic has been touched on before but unfortunately could not find it.

Does anyone know (or have) a list of the gravestones that were transferred from Christchurch churchhard to Preston Cemetery (I think) around about 1955.

On going through some old papers belonging to my late mother I came across a reference to an MI she recorded many years ago on a visit to the Society of Genealogists in London. Specifically I am looking for a headstone of Georgge BALMER, Painter and Glazier who died 28 May 1829. Is this one of the lucky stones to have survived or has it been ground up for hardcore?

Many thanks,

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Henry Metcalf Marshall Master Mariner lookup request
« on: Saturday 22 September 12 20:34 BST (UK)  »
Henry Metcalfe (Mitcalfe) Marshall was baptised at Christ Church, Tynemouth 30 Oct 1787. He married Elizabeth Balmer also at Christ Church, Tynemouth on 26 Feb 1829 (By Licence). He is shown living at 99, Bedford Street, North Shields in 1851, occupation Seaman. He is shown living at Church Road, North Shields in 1861, occupation Master Mariner. He died at Spring Hill, Morpeth on 15 Aug 1870 and his death was recorded in The Morpeth Herald on Saturday 20 Aug 1870. He and Elizabeth had a daughter Ann J Marshall born around 1832, baptised at Christ Church, Tynemouth 12 Dec 1832 who married John Elliott Ashton at Christ Church, Tynemouth in the Apr-Jun Quarter of 1863. With regards to his seafaring days, I have not been able to discover very much. There are some Mariners Certificates for a Henry Marshall from North Shields but I cannot prove that they are applicable to him. Following his death he does not appear to have left a Will.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Huthwaite Cemetery
« on: Thursday 26 January 12 20:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to the list.

My great grandparents Alfred George ARROWSMITH (d 1943) and Louisa ARROWSMITH (d 1927)were both buried in Huthwaite Cemetery. I have the reference of the plot from the Cemetery Register: Section A. Col 3a. No. 2 . But I am not sure whether there is a Headstone or not. Can anyone tell me whether the Monumental Inscriptions for Huthwaite have been published or if some kind soul happens to be going to the cemetery would they mind having a look for me?

Many thanks,

Stephen Andrews
