Thanks very much Trishanne, loord74 & Sharon Overschmidt they look awesome! It's great to have the option of either the individual musician or the quartet, and the colours a nice touch too. Would any of you mind if I used one of your restorations in a family photo book which I plan to update in the next 2 years or so?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could have a go at restoring this photo of my great grandfather Harry Benfield Gates (2nd from left) who played the violin in this unknown quartet.

Thanks,
Rokkonz

Thanks very much to everyone for their input, especially to McGroger for the post bump & photo restoration! I was quite surprised that it was a unanimous decision but am pleased that I won't be left wondering whether it was my 3x great grandparents. A relative has about 9kg worth of photos to go through & scan so I may be back at some stage (sorry).

Cheers, Richard

Hi,

Can anybody please offer me possible dates for this photo? I believe that it could possibly be my 3x great grandparents who were married in 1853 in Brighton, Sussex, England.

If the photo seems like it is from 1870 or later a secondary location could be Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand

Any help would be much appreciated,

Richard

Thanks very much Spades,

the inquest provided exactly what I was after and it has ended a 2 year mystery for me and a much longer one for many other family members.

your help is greatly appreciated (yet again).

Hi Lucy2,

You were correct the first time, I am after the inquest for Alexander Sinclair who died in Portobello, Dunedin in late April 1874. The coroner was based in Port Chalmers, Dunedin as listed in my previous post.

The other Alexander Sinclair that you are referring to died 5th September 1874 in Wellington as below.
From: Coroner, Wellington Date: 22 September 1874 Subject: Inquest proceedings on Alexander Sinclair (R24321874) https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=24321874

Cheers

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone that is going to the Wellington Archives may be able to lookup this inquest file please? I am interested in any information that can help identify who this man was, such as... spouse or childrens names, age, his home address etc.

From: Coroner, Port Chalmers Date: 19 November 1874 Subject: Inquest proceedings on Alexander Sinclair (R24322180)
https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=24322180

Thanks very much to everyone who has posted on this topic, you have done a good job in convincing me that this photo is in fact my 3x great grandmother Jean Sinclair (nee Mair). I appreciate your efforts! :)
