Think we have to try contacting that match and some of the others. I meant to do some of it in April when I contacted you but life happens to all of us, and I think both you and I have had it in spades recently .
Personal Data protection is my thought, I'm sure some people will be following your thread  and will not worry about a bit of clutter

Lise

Will send you a pm with all the dates/locations I want you to look at. I hope you've managed to crack  searching on Gedmatch, but no matter if I give you details with PR's etc, you can have a look
I obviously can't  write  anything on here re our actual  Gedmatches.

When I was shown to be a DNA match with Lisa 6 years ago we communicated briefly, but didn't know on which family lines we matched. And we only had a couple of co-shared matches who didn't respond.

We have a few more now, I can see a much wider picture and I think that the match  ( 5 generations to MRCA) is going to be along my line with unusual surnames and in my tree will go back to around 1790's- 1800.

Which would  hopefully answer Lisa's original query, and confirm a comment made on this thread.  I don't have a lot of close  family members who have tested,  which on Gedmatch up to a 3,000 match comparison shows quite a lot with me @  around 4 or 5 generations to MRCA.

If we do get a response I'm sure one of us will update for you all

Thinking of you Lisa & family. Don't forget me as an already known DNA match with you . Came across  something interesting today re our matches in common on gedmatch, and I'm not sure if we have discussed this in the past

Reason I've only just seen this thread, I have been very ill with Omicron and complications since end of July , and am just catching up on e mails etc
Message me on my e mail when you are able please and stay safe

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1921 Cenus Lookup Chesterfield

Thank you for letting us all know. I just want to add this. One of the births I looked at earlier today was
Thomas Rogers reg Mar Q 1912 @ Bucklow ( which is on the border between Lancashire & Cheshire)  mother's maiden name Rogers. Which would probably mean that she was a single mother at that time The GRO ref. if your friend wanted to order the cert is  Volume  8a Page 382

Sale is one of the districts  that was covered by Bucklow  in 1912. It's just possible that Thomas was actually born  Dec 1911 and reg in the 1st Q of 1912 . But without buying the cert and checking it ???

And David's suggestion re DNA testing  is also a good one

Good luck with your search

Hi
Don't totally rule out the 17th Dec 1912 birthdate  unless you have seen the bc.The reg of Births law gives parents 6 weeks/42 days period to register a birth.

It's  not unknown  for a child born in December to have been reg in the first Q of the following year  I have a couple in my FT. One is a Gt GM born 12th Dec and reg on 1st January of following year , wouldn't happen now,  the New Year's Day Reg I mean

Like most things the more you practise the better you become ( hopefully) because I'm definitely still learning. I have noticed more people with Irish Ancestry ( includes the kit I manage) are testing because it does help research on paternal lines.

If the other family have a male available and willing to test it would possibly show up different Haplogroups on the YDNA if they were different, but equally it could show the same Haplogroup. But a different Haplogroup would certainly prove a different male surname  line change somewhere . Alma's brother could also find matches that prove her research

There are certain markers that don't  change  or very little  showing an ancestor in common many generations back. Big Y is the most recent on the market ( and the most expensive!!!) so not for the faint hearted. I manage a family kit that's tested to 111 Markers, one down from Big Y, so I have to check results & matches also in their project.. .
