Hi Norrie
Last year asked your help in locating burials or headstones of David and Isabella Cook of Lochgelly. Have found place of burial at last...in Morningside, Edinburgh!
Family story it was another member, Andrew Galloway, who was in Edinburgh so wondering if mix up will result in him being in Lochgelly....he worked for Lochgelly Iron And Coal Co. and helped found the Masonic Lodge there.
Andrew Galloway born Markinch 1815, 16, or 17? and died  Dec 1897 and wife Janet Christie died 1911. She lived in Cowdenbeath when died and think they were estranged in later stages of marriage so may not be together!
Any other cemetery he might be...Bowhill....
As always thanks for any help or advice.
Christine

Ireland / Irish immigrants to Dundee

Hi
Can anyone give me some help and advice? In tracing my family tree I have discovered my Great Great Grandfather and mother, PETER HART, AGNES FIELDS came from Ireland. They were we born about 1826, came to Scotland, were married in the county of Angus, 1850s and settled in Dundee. Moved to Buckhaven in Fife where their son had in turn settled. In census records and death certs, 1890s they just state Ireland as their place of birth, but I would dearly like to find out where even if only the county.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Christine

Hi Norrie
I was wondering if any of these names appear in your records of graves in Lochgelly Cemetery.
Archibald Cook 10 April 1810-29 Jul 1867 and wife Isabella Sunter 1810-1857

His sister Catherine Cook 1808-1881 and husband James Muir ?-1857.
Their children Marion d. 1863, Montgomery d 1868 (married cousin James Cook and          of them when asked you to search them last year!) Thomas ,James ,David 1844-1857.

            His brother William Cook 1814-1878.

Any help would be great Norrie. I haven't had much luck in locating graves of people in my family tree from the places you hold records on! These ancestors of mine must be buried somewhere!
Thanks
Christine

Thomas Galloway & Isabella Welch married 24.1.1813 Leslie
they had a number of children, do you know who any of them married?

From Family search all born in Markinch
Andrew Galloway 28.12.1815 still alive in 1881 Census age 65 in Thornton

Was looking for info on parents and or siblings of Great Great Grandfather Andrew Galloway (died Lochgelly 19 Dec 1897 80yrs old) On death certificate, father Thomas Galloway coalminer and mother Isabella Welsh. In all census records birthplace is Markinch. If 80 when died would make birth year 1817. Tho' parish record has that as when baptised and born as your findings in 1815! Maybe he was as confused as I about his birth!

If your and my Andrew are the same (and not Thornton one!) he was married to a Janet Christie and there's another mystery there! On death cert says married to Janet Christie and 'Previously to 'blank' Christie'.
In court case involving Andrew and Janet, she states that she and Andrew married 14/08/1848, (have seen record), but he already had 3 children. She then had 13! I have found an earlier record of a marriage in Nov 1840 between an Andrew Galloway, but it is also to a Janet Christie! Both Auchterderran Parish records.

When found parish record pre 1855 it lists children of Andrew and Janet between 1841 and 1854 but no mention of two different Janets!
Tho' I noticed 3 children were born between 1841 and 1846 which would be the 3 mentioned in newspaper report of case?
Don't know if with your experience you might have some ideas about a solution to this 'mystery'
trying to find more about Janet (Died 1911 aged 88 in Cowdenbeath),father Robert a bottle blower but no name for her mother...
Did she have a sister that Andrew may have married before, a coincidence they had same name or something else? The search continues!

Thanks anyway for your help!

Thanks Norrie,
The older dates concerning the Sunters seem to tie in with Sunters in my tree.
Thanks as always for your invaluable help.
              Best Wishes Christine.

Hi Norrie
Wondering if you have anything from Kilconquhar Cemetery under the name Sunter?
Alexander Sunter, a Bailie/magistrate in Earlsferry, died in 1804. Also a son (2nd?) Alexander and wife, Agnes Mackay, married Dec 1791.
Thanks for any info and Merry Christmas!
 Christine.
