What I should have said is that I have the dates but no names.

Sorry, I'm working on too many people at the moment that I'm confusing myself. I have got his birth and death dates but I cannot find his parents or any entry on the 1911 census.
Admittedly I haven't really spent a great deal on this one as I've been pulled down another path with other relatives.
Thanks!

Norfolk / Trying to trace James Warnes Mather

I am trying to trace James Warnes Mather from the Bradwell area of Great Yarmouth from around 1902, he was married to Elsie Daisy Perry and had a son Edward James Mather in 1939.
I have trawled records on Ancestry.co.uk where I'm setting up mine and my partner's tree but cannot find anything. One theory has been that perhaps he was born out of wedlock due to his middle name looking more like a surname but I can't find anything to authenticate this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Incidentally, my Son goes to the nursery which is very close to the site of the Thorpe Hospital and it's a very sad looking place, so much of it is boarded up. Horrible to think of people being there for reasons beyond belief to our standards these days. I will certainly continue my searches and I want to understand Clementina's situation further.
I had found that Charles had another wife seemingly with further children too.

Thanks again.
Kerry

Norfolk / Lunatic Asylum - Thorpe/Norwich & Tacolneston/Norfolk

Hello,
I've just set out on an interesting journey of tracing back my family tree and wow how addictive is it!!
I've traced back a relative of my Grandad who is showing to have died at either Thorpe Lunatic Asylum or Tacolneston Lunatic Asylum in 1911.
I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me where I might be able to find information about these institutions to see if I can trace her. My Grandmother thinks she may have been sent there because she fell pregnant outside of marriage as this was what happened back then.
Her name is Clementina Lord (later Osborne).
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who may be able to help.
Thanks very much
Kerry
