Thanks Alan, it never occurred to me to look at newspapers!

Thanks Bumble B. I have had a good look at the maps at NLS but none have Finningley Common marked on them - unless I am looking in the wrong place - and that's quite possible :-)

Nottinghamshire / Finningley - Poll Book Address Location - what does it mean?
« on: Sunday 06 March 22 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All, in the 1836 register of electors in East Retford Poll Book an ancestor living in Finningley is described as being qualified to vote by having "House and Land" this is located in "Land in Field and Common" but does anybody know where this might be? Does it refer to a particular part of Finningley? Any help welcome. Thanks.

Hello Pauline,

I think you have it! I have just been back and checked - and you are right  it is not baptism in 1805 but burials in 1806.

Thanks

Rob

Gloucestershire / Help with making sense of Tewkesbury Parish Register
« on: Sunday 07 April 19 22:44 BST (UK)  »
I may be missing something but I can't work this out. ???

Ancestry lists the baptism of Mary Matthews, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth, on the 11 April 1805 in Tewkesbury. When you look at the document it appears to be a bishops Transcript.

However when compared to the Tewkesbury parish register none of the names of those baptised in April match.

I thought that the document might refer to burials but they don't match either.

I can't fathom it out - I would be grateful if someone could have a second look for me. Thanks.

Hello All,

Would anybody who has access be able to look up the burial record for Richard Chester buried Blyth, 23 October 1835. I am keen to know if it provides any personal - address/occupation details.

Thanks in advance

Rob

London and Middlesex / Homerton Hospital burial ground & Smallpox
« on: Wednesday 20 March 19 18:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I have just learned that the corpses of those who died of Small Pox on the Hospital Ship Atlas were taken to Homerton hospital for burial.

Can anyone tell me what cemetery Homerton Hospital would have used?

Thanks

Hello Arthurk,

I think you are right - they must have had a link to the two parishes - there are a lot of Druwryes in Wroot - but I have yet to find it. To confuse matters more they went to live in (and die in) a third parish.

It would have been  quite expensive for them - presumably they had to pay at both churches.
