Lanarkshire / Re: Holmes Family
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 01:30 GMT (UK)  »
My Allan ancestor married a William Holmes, early 1900’s in Bellshill, Lanarkshire - he was a coal miner and they moved to Cardenden, Fife where they had a big family - Alice, Robert, James, William, Alexander, Mary and several infants who died. William is buried in Bowhill Cemetery.

Terri, re place of burial missing on death cert. In modern-day  Scotland, the death is registered almost immediately as which time funeral arrangements have not been finalised. In 1959, for my grandmother then 1995, for my mother, l went from the hospital to the undertaker to the registry office and immediately received two official copies of the death certificates. The undertaker takes care of all the cremation and burial arrangements.

Hoping this will reach Hetta who provided some info on the GILES family and indicated she had more. It was back in 2016 and there was no reply to mine in 2017.

Thank you for the speedy response and the information, totally unexpected. The reasons you gave are plausible but l was looking forward to learning my ancestors were a bit rebellious - weren’t they known as a breakaway protestant group? Though the birth was reported as 1806, the entry was not signed as registered until 1815, hence my query as to other family registrations. It certainly opens up another avenue of research. Thank you again.
P.s. read this over twice, hoping no typos

Query re an old post - Dr. William’s Library. I recently came across an ancestor’s birth entry in this register. Child appears to born in Inswich in 1805, notation made ‘at whose birth we were present” Wm Spark & Frances Payne - Really? Registered at Dr. William’s Library, Redcross Street, near Cripplegate, London on Nov  22, 1815, signed Thos. Morgan, Register
Does this mean the family were part of the non-conformists, had to pay and register - who made the choice as registration was not compulsory at that time. What about other family births, deaths and marriages? Sorry if l appear vague but first time l have run across this.

Little late seeing this. Saving a view of a newspaper article on  Find My Past, produces a view of other articles - a little darker than the researched article which us hugh-lighted. However, a print-out has all articles wasting a lot if ink on the dark background. With ipad, the screenshot also has everything on the page not just the one article. I will check out this  snipping tool and see what l can learn. Thanks.

Technical Help / Facebook

Not very fond of the “bare your soul” aspect of Facebook but was forced to join to access family photos. I do not have so-called friends but recently joined genealogy groups. How do l contribute with copies of certificates, photos or links? How do l attach a pdf or jpeg, how about a spreadsheet of names etc? Yes, l really am very green and don’t even know how to send a personal message but good with file folders, spreadsheets, email? I’ve seen several postings of photos with names and dates right on the photos.

Thank you so much for responding, researching for many years and unearthed a few mysteries - one involving Ethel, also brother, Bernard, who emigrated to Canada with no further contact. However, now his  grandson has been in touch with me. So very pleased to delve further into our Spencer clan with you.
