Sorry Shane,

Can i order information from nli for births/ marriages etc or do i need to call into nli and order search.
The other question i forgot to ask is which was the most common paper for people in kildare in early 1900s. There was supposed to be an article on my ancestor in a paper in 1912. My ggranny referred to it been in the paper but did not state which paper>

Many thanks again

Hi Shane,

Many thanks for your reply. I contacted Carlow in the past as i thought i would try them as i originally thought my ancestors cames from Carlow. The parish office advised me that their records were burnt many years  ago and dont have any records from 1700s which is what i am looking for. My ancestor Mick Wall was killed in 1798 rebellion in Carlow as he was a blacksmith and was involved in the rebellion. I know he did work on Bruen's estate in Oakpark. I would like to find the records that link us right back. I do however have family stories including written information on Mick Wall which is in a diary that my ggranny kept. I have records for Mick Wall's son  Matthew Wall who lived in Ardree, Athy (his wife hailed from Ardree) but i think he originally came from Castledermot. Its a pity that records in Ireland do not go back as far as other countries.
I did find some records for Castledermot but they dont go far enough back. Would love a birth cert/ baptismal record linking Matthew to Mick Wall. Unfortunately that wont happen but heres wishing  :)

Laois (Queens) / any information on queens county militia
« on: Saturday 22 September 12 20:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to find some information on the above. My ancestor was imprisoned for deserting the militia in 1859/ 1860. It is odd that he was in the militia as his grandfather who was a rebel was killed in Carlow for making pikes in the 1798 rebellion.
Could he have entered the militia against his will?

i have found lots of information on the cork militia but not on queen's county militia. My ancestor's name was Patrick Wall from Ardree, Athy?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

E

Dear Jean,

We are so delighted to hear from you. My mum Elizabeth was born in Kildare and now lives in County Westmeath. I am her daughter and live in County Galway.
I have just contacted my mum and she will route out our information and we will contact you with the information later today. All our research is with mum to ensure that all is kept together. I could not resist contacting you as soon as I saw your post.

Mum and I took a week off to do some genealogy research and called to Ardree graveyard. We have photos of the graves of the Wall side and one of Hugh Blakeny's grave stone. We can get copies and send to you. My aunt lives outside Athy and we stayed with her during our research. We were there in July. It is such a pity that we only got onto this forum recently. We could have arranged to meet up to discuss our family.
We are awaiting information from Athy parish church on Patrick Wall and Matthew Wall and if there is anything you would like us to find out please let us know. We can certainly look into that marriage cert for you. We are on a wait list for information since Jan 2012!!! The process is quite slow.
As far as we know there are no Blakenys living in the Ardree area but I will verify with mum. The Blakenys had a mill rented and my mum has a diary that her grandmother kept and she talks about the Blakenys in it. It would be great to share the information.

It s such a pity that we missed you and your daughter when you were over. My e-mail address is * but i wil keep an eye on this forum and contact you when mum has pulled the information for you

Dear Jean,

In reply to your queries on Hugh Blakeny, Ardree there is a grave stone in Ardree graveyard (off Carlow/ athy rd: outside of Athy) Hugh Blakeny ardree died 10th May 1850 aged 58 years. His wife Catherine Blakeny died 14th March 1876 aged 83 years, also his son michael died 16th December 1850 aged 28 years.

Hugh Blakeny's sister Mary was married to Matthew Wall (Matt) in circa 1824 and their son Patrick Wall is my great grand father.

It would be great to hear from you.

Elizabeth and Eilish
