Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Census - MILLEST
« on: Tuesday 15 August 06 13:23 BST (UK)  »
That is interesting.
The Ancestry.com index for the 1851 census gives William b 1813 AND Mary Ann 1812 (38 and 39)
I now have a copy of the 1851 and looking closely William's age is 30, not 38!
So your data of 40 for William in the 1861 lines up, and Mary Ann is 49
So William is b about 1821, not 1813

Thanks again
Dennis

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Passenger List "Cornwall" 1849
« on: Thursday 15 December 05 05:26 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Lyn ... I had found the Ngaio Press site.
This was a John WRIGHT who landed at Port Chalmers on that voyage.
Another good site for reading old newspapers on-line is
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/browse.html
On this site I read "The New Zealand Spectator and Cook Strait Guardian" for Sept 12 1849.  Amongst others, it lists a Miss C Wright and a Mr Wright from the "Cornwall" on that voyage.  Maybe he is my Charles.
Another researcher has confirmed the "Cornwall" did indeed sail from Deal, Kent.  I will try researching in Kent and see if any Charles WRIGHTs went missing between the 1841 and 1851 censuses.
Kind regards, Dennis

New Zealand Completed Requests / Passenger List "Cornwall" 1849

Reading "White Wings" I find the Cornwall sailed from London or Deal, Kent to New Plymouth, Nelson, Wellington and Port Chalmers as a ship chartered by the NZ Land Company.
I am looking for a Charles WRIGHT who I believe landed at Wellington from this vessel.
Any confirmation and any further details on him, port of embarkation, counties the passengers may have come from, etc, gratefully received.
He has been proving a brickwall to me for nearly 30 years now, Dennis

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been on holidays in the UK for a month.

John Herbert Harrington had 9 children to "A lady of colour" but sorry ... no name for her.
As this is now a bit off topic I will reply in detail with a personal message.
Regards
Dennis

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Lookup request, Oare Parish register - Baldock
« on: Friday 16 September 05 23:39 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Adrian,
When I didn't get any response to my question, I tried another avenue and contacted the Church Warden of the Oare Parochial Church Council, Linda Kennett email address removed by moderator please use the secure Rootschat PM system to exchange email addresses who checked the microfilm and found my ancestors Thomas (1807) and Harriett (1805) BALDOCK together with another sibling, James, (1803) all children of Edward and Mary BALDOCK.  No mention of their marriage however.  There is a donation of £10 expected.
A followup with the Faversham society could be useful too, thanks
Dennis
