Montgomeryshire / Re: Llanidloes Cemeteries
« on: Monday 17 June 19 10:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Thanks for that and your interest. That's them, Griffith being from Anglesey.
Ellen & son are in Mountain Ash in 1911 following the death of her husband. The son was a miner at the Nixon's Navigation there. Griffith was buried at Dolhafren  but sadly there is no stone. Ellen remained in Mountain Ash until her death in January 1921 but she was buried with her husband. There was a good Obit in the Montgomery Express & Radnor Times (for both of them in fact).
Her sister Sarah Parry who lived in Trewen, Llandinam for years and died in 1925 having moved to Picton Street, Llanidloes. Now she is more of an enigma (turned out her husband was a bigamist who went to the USA) She was Sarah Williams after 1911. She was not a member of China Street chapel & I cannot find an Obit for her (but have her DC) The Obit would have been valuable to see who was there. I would love to know where she is buried, quite possibly in Dolhafren. I have lost my contact number in Llani but this has rekindled my interest again.
Many thanks for your interest.

Caernarvonshire / Re: Owen family of Eryri terrace Y Fron
« on: Saturday 13 June 15 09:04 BST (UK)  »
Rowland Owen , 3 Eryri Terrace, Y Fron was the adopted son of John Daniel Roberts. His biological parents were William Owen, Hen Gapel, Cesarea & Elizabeth Williams from Beddgelert.
Rowland Owen was born on the 6th May 1895 at Hen Gapel & died in 3 Eryri Terrace in 1968. I have failed to find an Obituary but he is buried at Carmel cemetery with his wife Elizabeth J. Hughes. I have a lengthy Obituary for her in 1975.
I can only echo Emyr Borth's comments that his mother died soon after birth & with a large family, he was adopted by close neighbours.
John Daniel Roberts is in my family tree & The Penrhyn Oer, Cesarea family is mentioned in a fascinating article about Upper Llandwrog written by the Rev William Williams, Llanwnda (Einion) in 1910.

Merionethshire / Re: Frederick Morris born 1896 Machynlleth

Hi,
Towyn/Tywyn, Merionethshire now Gwynedd births are all registered under "Pennal" at Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire. It's odd as a lot of the marriages are registered at Dolgellau where you'd expect births to be registered.
I think it may depend on where in the (large) Parish of Towyn  where they were born. Towyn parish also includes Aberdyfi/Aberdovey which is much closer geographically to Machynlleth.
Regards

Merionethshire / Re: Elias Hope d1897 Talyllyn, where could he have been buried?
« on: Thursday 14 August 14 21:45 BST (UK)  »
Y Negesydd, a Corris newspaper states that Elias Hope of Tanyfron, Corris died after a protracted illness on May 1st 1897. He was from Prestatyn and had lived in Corris for 35 years. He left a widow to mourn his loss. It further states that he was buried at Rehoboth Cemetery.
The MI 's for Rehoboth are available & there is no stone there for that name. I suspect that "Dolgellau" is correct  that he was buried at the church (for which there are no MI's yet)
Regards.

Oh, looking at my photos of Gorffwysfa, I've got the gravestone of Robert & Hannah Roberts's children if you are interested?

Hi
There are 4 main cemeteries in Llanllyfni, the one to the south you mention is Gorffwysfa on Bryn Sisyllt where a lot of Nebo/ Nazareth families are buried.
Moving north down Rhedyw Road on the right is Salem near the Primary School, the one that Tall Al mentioned whose burial records are available. Very close to is Bara Caws the Scotch Baptist Cemetery (unsure if that is open to the public) and at the bottom is St Rhedyw parish church that I believe is still used.
I have a photo of the War Memorial in Nebo if you are interested.

Anglesey / Re: Photograph of old Amlwch

Thanks for that. I've tried Google maps but I suspect the house is not on a highlighted road. I was hoping that someone with local knowledge might recognize it.

I suspect this house in the upper photo is Brynteg, Amlwch taken about he turn of the last century, abt 1900.
Can anyone confirm if that's the case and whether it's still there.
Many thanks
