I am not directly related to this family. Susannah IRWIN who married Elijah SIMPKIN is from a family that married into my family and sometimes searching into extended families you find clues to your own, hence my following Elijah and Susannah to Massachusetts. While trying to figure out where "Batchcote" is located I found your post and recognized the names. From the Massachusetts City Directories, Lawrence 1859; "SIMPKINS, Mary, widow, boards (with) Elijah SIMPKINS". This was a clue linking Elijah and his mother but I could not find an immigration record for Mary and she wasn't on the same ship as Elijah and Susannah. There were not many people living in that part of Massachusetts with that surname so the chance of being related is pretty good. Plus I believe Mary's husband John died in the early 1850's so there is a good chance she followed her son to America. Elijah's brother Joseph had a large family who stayed in England but I never found Mary after the 1851 census.  It is sad that the surname of Mary's parents is not given at her death but it could be a help in finding her birth/chr in England. In regard to the Mary born in "Batchcote" who married John SIMPKIN; she was living with her son Elijah SIMPKIN and listed as a widow, in Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts in 1859. Elijah and his wife Susannah (IRWIN), immigrated to Massachusetts arriving on 11 NOV 1854. Mary died 26 FEB 1859 in Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts, of Paralysis, age 75, born in England, daughter of James and Mary (no surname given). Elijah was born 9 JAN 1826 in Manchester, Lancashire, England and died 22 MAY 1899 in Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts. Susannah was born abt 1825 in Manchester, Lancashire, England and was the daughter of Arthur IRWIN. She died 15 FEB 1878 of heart disease at 45 Haverhill, Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts. They had one daughter who married named Henrietta (Etta), who married George KNIGHT on 20 NOV 1879. Etta died 14 APR 1902 leaving 3 children.

Eleanor Brown RAMPTON and my grandfather, Royal Walker RAMPTON, were both born the same year and are 2nd cousins. I have been trying to piece together the little bit I know about the RAMPTONS and extended family who left England for Australia. Have you looked at the Henry RAMPTON Family Association website? http://www.henryramptonfamily.org/ There is quite a bit of research on the family to be found there. I only have birth and death years for Eleanor. Do you have anything more complete?

Hello, I have been looking for information on Henry Lawrence SCOTT who married Eleanor Brown RAMPTON on 2 APR 1919 in Hampshire England. He was in the A.I.F. and on an extraction of the marriage certificate his father is listed as Henry Rowland SCOTT. Shortly after their marriage they moved back to Adelaide and were divorced in 1934. Any chance he is related to your Henry Rowland SCOTT?
