No, i think the photo is before their time - they belonged in the early 30s. the hairstyles in the photo are more like the 20s.

The photo could be The Pirates of Penzance.
My Mum and some of my aunts belonged to a theatre group who performed mostly Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas. dad played the piano for them someimes.
So interesting, Thanks Phogetts. I don't think they're on the picture though. I'll have another look.

What a fascinating thread.  My Dad would have loved this, he was keen on Blyth and family history.  And especially naval history.
The only link I  have is that we lived a block away from Dinsdale house   in  my youth.
And his office was on Stanley St.

Mike - the only location I remember fondly from your post is the chip shop on Plessey road, the one near the Broadway area. we used to live on Kingsway, opposite Croft Park, and went there often. Can't remember the owner's name. only the food!
I left Blyth in 1954 but still live quite close.
Philip - sorry to hear of your health problems - I've had my ups and downs too but still plodding on.

The building is on the corner of Waterloo and Wolsley roads. I lived in a flat just a couple of blocks down Wolsley road in the early 50s.
Later it became the office for births mariages and deaths  - I went there to register my Mum's death in 2002. As far as I can remember.
Sorry, no idea about the intervening years though.

Very sad news indeed - we had a few exchanges on the forum and by pm. I also come from Blyth, she was younger than me and I thought she might have known my younger sister.
I loved her avatar - her children and grandchildren will miss her so much. (and her husband).
Sending them condolences if they're reading this thread.

The Seghini family was famous in Blyth for introducing ice cream just after WW2. They probably still live there as the older Seghinis lived next door to my parents on Broadway, near the Circle.
Mum died in 2002.

I could have got it wrong and Mrs. Wood's shop was on the opposite corner. I was born in 1936.
I have a vague memory of 'Turnbull's paper shop'.
As for when the houses were built someone with knowledge of building methods and styles should help.
From the google map photos they look quite modern to me, built to last as with The Avenues, near where we lived on Kingsway, opposite Blyth Spartans pitch.
