Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Gosport Residents Directory
« on: Tuesday 18 December 07 18:43 GMT (UK)  »
Could SKS who has access to a Kelly's or similar for Gosport look up a Cyril Manwaring.
We are informed that he lived most of his adult life in Gosport, but have no idea when & where.
He died in 1990, so any directory between (say) 1935 & then may suffice.

Many Thanks.

Alan.

Hi Barbara, that's very kind - it certainly looked like a 'u' to my poor eyes!

Hi, thanks for a speedy response.  I've taken another look at the Census image and it could well be that!
I'll pay a visit when near that way & check it out.

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Austey, Alton - Where was it?

The 1851 Census shows my Pond ancestors living at 40 Austey, Alton.  I can't find a reference to this address anywhere. Does anyone know whether it now exists, or has been renamed?

Many thanks,
Alan.

Ross & Cromarty / Dingwall Residents Directories 1918
« on: Saturday 07 April 07 12:13 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate the address of a Thomas Richard Manwaring, living in Dingwall 1918/19, and possibly later.
He was a Scotish Freemason, I assume a member of the Dingwalll lodge at that time.
Would anyone who has access to a residents directory, or Electoral Register, or Masonic membership lists kindly do a lookup for me please.

Thankyou.
Alan.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Beard - 1871 London census

Dear Millerina,
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to do this for me. I'm really excited now, as we have had
no success with this family line, for three years, until another recent request resulted in the first concrete info on our Beard line. That information supplied the basis for this request which you have nowlooked up for us.

With kind regards,
Alan.

Hi Dave & Joe, many thanks to both of you. Yes, it looks very likely that the 1901 info is my family.
I couldn't supply other details as I only knew of William Henry from his name on my grandparents
marriage certificate, and the fact that he was alive at that time (1909) & that his occupation was given as 'engineer'.

I have been reluctant to start to purchase certificates, as there are several William Henry Beards showing on the 1881 census, who are in the likely age range of someone who could have fathered Clara.

With the details you have supplied I can now narrow down my search for other ancestors.

With kind regards,
Alan.
