Thanks John and Rosie99 Sarah Berner has come up before but I can't seem to find any more information linking her to Robert Lay 1787, and getting back to Ancestry again sorry I cant find any reference to daughter Jane who would have been born  in or around 1812

Good spotting John ....with misspelt name Robert Ley  instead of Lay 1811

Sorry to have confused you Robert ( 1787 - 1853) who I think is my. 4th great grandfather was a farrier in 1851.

I just want to confirm that he is the father of Robert 1810 - 1868 who married Charlotte, he was a mariner. I confirm that he is the person in the 1951 census as outlined by Rosie 99

Re death of Robert 1810 have been unable to confirm, 1868 on ancestry it is stated that he is buried in Mere Knolls Cemetery, Sunderland, that has been transcribed on to the Internet but I find loads of Lays but alas not him !!!

Re looking for Robert's father.

So as I see it, if I order a marriage certificate for Robert William Lay (it should confirm if his middle name is William) born 4/10/1810 marrying Charlotte Hunter.  It should also disclose his fathers name and occupation and I should be able to compare that with his census 1851.  I couldn't find him in the 1941 census.  It shows his occupation as a farrier in 1951 census.

Only problem is that there are other Robert's and in particular one born in 1790 which also who was born in Tillingham, Essex but that is unsubstantiated.

I am looking for Robert William's father my 4 th great grandfather.  Not helpful that there are lots of Robert Lays.

I found one man who seem like he may be it "Robert lay" 1787 - 1853
the doubts i have are as follows

On ancestry lots of trees have the two related
However....
He has two sons called Robert both alive Robert William 1811 - 1868
and Robert Ridley Lay 1838 - 1908

On another tree it has the first wife Sarah Juniper 1791 - 1938 yet in Robert's subsequent marriage to Jane Ramsay North in 1815 he declares himself a widower.

A fresh pair of eyes would be ever so helpful

Family History Beginners Board / George Mundell Born Isle of Wight 1812
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 06:47 BST (UK)  »
I have tried to find George Mundell's parents (born 1812)  married to Kezia Tharle (1807)

I found information on ancestry that Elizabeth Calloway born 1771 was the mother, however, she  married a chap called William Mundell, I found the marriage date of 24/02/1789 of William and Elizabeth, in the England and Wales marriages, which seems to correlate where they lived in St Helens, Hampshire.  William was born in 1761 but he doesn't appear to be correct father because he died in 1805 and George was born in 1812!
