Hi Carol
Sadly i think that you will find that Basford Union Workhouse records for that period have not survived. I have been trying to find the father of  a relation born in this workhouse with a middle name likely to be related to the father and i know that the records for 1862 do not exist.

Hi Tempest

Thanks, you are correct I saw this many moons ago and have searched Nottingha Archives but haven't managed to turn up any records whatsoever.

Hi
I know there was a children's home on Hartley Road Radford at that time. My Grandmother was sent there. The children were farmed out from there into work very often as servants. My grandmother was taken out of the home when she was older by an aunt and was used as a servant by her. Iv'e never found out what happened to her two brothers. Cannot trace any of them on 1901 census but they turn up 1911. Sadly there are no records remaining from the children's home. I think they called it an industrial school and they were transferred there when their mother died in the workhouse. Maybe that's what happened to your family. Mine also lived in the Sneinton area. Fortunately my mother knew that this is what had happened to her mother.

Technical Help / Re: FTM 2014 "lost media files"
« on: Friday 14 August 20 16:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi Gigi

You don't say where you added the media files from in the first place. My personal preference is to save all of my files relating to family history in one folder on my computer. Then when I want to attach it to my FTM i look for it in that file and choose to attach it. I have not always had an Ancestry membership and so if I find something on there that I want to keep I download it first and save it into my computer file before attaching to FTM. This way i can always access those files. If you don't have a membership, you cannot view census etc that you have previously attached to your tree on Ancestry. When you back up FTM you can choose whether to back up the media files at the same time. I always lock media files that I add to FTM so that they cannot be used by Ancestry especially photos.
I have to say that i am now using FTM 2017, but I have always added media files this way. Hope this helps.

The Common Room / Re: 100 Hucknall Road Nottingham
« on: Monday 08 June 20 13:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi Hattierose

Could 100 have been 700. I believe the workhouse on Hucknall Rd was number 700. I have come across the street number and street being put on birth certs before instead of putting Workhouse.
I know 1 and 7 can be confused sometimes depending on how it's written.

Hi
I can tell you that Nottingham Workshouse records are available at Nottinghamshire Archives. My Great Grandmother was in there with her children. She died there. The records show when they were admitted and why and when they are discharged and where to as far as i can remember. Some of the records may show a reputed father if a child is born in the workhouse. Sadly my husband's great grandfather was born in a different workhouse but the records for that one do not exist and we would have loved to have known who his reputed father was. None recorded on certificate and husband had been dead a quite a while.
Good luck

Sheila
