Hi Sarah

I was contacted by U3A Nunawading to say you were looking for me. Sorry to cause some problems for you. I spent the latter half of 2014 and the first 7 months of 2015 in and out of hospital in Melbourne, Oz.

Subsequently sold our Melbourne house and have just moved into a lovely home in Ballarat, Victoria. I have been without the internet for several months. We finally had our internet connected one week ago and I am slowly working my way through to amend our email address etc. 

Hi also Miss Moppet thank you for your information, as it was 2012 when I was researching the Pattens, I will have to find my records and get back to you. Might take some time - we have 90 removal boxes to unpack.

I have been reading this thread just because I grew up in Ballarat.

Would it be possible that the three sisters went back to Wales?  They may have made an agreement with their siblings to sell the house even though they never married.

Bac3 in the first post said his parents names were father - John and Mother - Ann

just checked the Ballarat General Cemetery and found a burial.

Makes him born about 1821.

I have temporarily misplaced the applicable disc, so don't know where he is showing as being born.
I am sure another rootschatter will let us know.

Samuel Shillington who died in 1904 and married Nancy Reynolds in 1882 - Reg. No 4262 is showing as having been born in Ireland.

You are able to read his Will on the PROV web site. He had a son Samuel and 4 daughters - Ada, Diana, Cora, Pearl according to his Will.  A wealthy and successful farmer with a brother called Thomas who is also mentioned in the Will.

I found an E.Davenport arriving in Sydney in 1910 on findmypast, but as I don't have a subscription I can't go any further with that entry.

Then I checked in Trove and found an Elizabeth Davenport cited as Plaintiff in a court case for the estate of James Henry Thomas Joyce ex Policeman who died in May 1912. He had a wife and children and the funeral notices etc are also in Trove.

He died Intestate and the notice with Elizabeth Davenport as Plaintiff could indicate that she was somehow involved with James Joyce. Maybe a Rootschatter with more experience than me for searching in New South Wales might be able to find some more information on this.

The funeral notice is in the Sydney Morning Herald on 16th May 1912. The following year there are memorials from the family.(No mention of Elizabeth Davenport)

The notice in Trove for the court case for James Joyce being Intestate when he died in also in the Sydney Morning Herald on 2nd June 1914.  I will try to attach a copy of this article.

this Elizabeth Davenport may not be "your" Elizabeth of course.
