Hiya,

In 1871/1881, the Sturgess family lived in 30 High Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith. However, in the 1881 census, the parents are missing and left the eldest, William (13) in charge, stated on the census. Would there be any possible way of finding out where the parents went to, and how long they went for?  They must have taken their two youngest children Florence (4) and Frances (2) with them. In the 1891 census, they're back at 30 High Street. Any help would be appreciated! I know they were a wealthy family, but the disappearance has baffled me and I would love to find an explanation for it!

I'm currently researching my dad's side of the family, going up his mum's route, with her maiden name being Hickling. I have found records for her father William, but when it gets to William's father - Alfred, born 1880 - it gets difficult. There is no record for his birth that I've found, but have his death certificate and found out the birth that way, there's also no marriage certificate, but I know for certain who he married. I tried to get further back to Alfred's father, but can not find anything! I found in the 1881 Census that Alfred was one, living with his sister Mildred, but with another family, surname May. All in all, how do I find out about potential adoption/fosterings for around 1881, or would there be another reason as to why I can't find anything else about Alfred's parents?
