Family History Beginners Board / Re: Finding information about my great grandad
« on: Thursday 14 August 14 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi again

I spoke to my husband's uncle but he cannot remember any distant relatives called John.  He doesn't even remember his grandfather Reuben but I think he died young. He only seems to remember his Uncle Albert (not Gilbert, as was transcribed from the 1911 census).  He lost an eye during WW1 and was probably quite well known in Stalybridge. So it would appear that any family link would be from way way back. Hope you had better luck with your search for John's military history.

Kind regards, S

Hi again,
(*)

I'll take some of the photos and if he's feeling up to it, get him to have a look and I'll make a note of the names. If any are of John or if he can remember a family member by that name, I'll let you know and quite happily copy any relevant photographs.

Can you let me know the names of your grandparents? They would presumably be the same generation as my Uncle .  Kind regards Sally

My uncle, Peter Audrain was evacuated from Jersey during WW2, I think with brother Maurice and possibly a sister (I can check this with my mum as she lived a few doors away from them in Fallowfield/Burnage/Withington area of Manchester). Peter married my mum's sister Frances and they emigrated to Toronto, Canada.  If you think this is relevant info for your search, I can tell you more and find out more. Sally

Hi, My late father in Law was called Samuel Gillibrand b.1921 in Stalybridge, his father was also called Samuel and he was married to Gladys (nee. Lewis). I think Samuel snr's father was called Reuben from a 1901 census record I have.  Now, here's the thing, my husband's uncle, is still living in Stalybridge and we have pics of his family from WW1. I think he might have mentioned he had an Auntie Edie. I can ask him when we see him which is very often, if you'd like us to. Hope the above info might be useful. Sally

Hi I just saw your post from 2005 re a Daniel Barber from Heaton, Staffordshire. Did you complete your search?  Ann Eliza was my husband's great grandmother and she is buried in Wincle with her husband Thomas Joseph Brocklehurst, they died in March and December 1939.  Sally
