Hi there

I live in Inverness and have been trying for many years to find a plot plan for Tomnahurich to no avail.
Highland Council do not have a plan available on their website and i have contacted them about it. What are the details you have?

Ireland / Convent records in Ireland
« on: Thursday 18 August 22 22:19 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for records relating to someone born in a convent in Ireland probably between 1920 and 1930. The information I have is limited I'm afraid, I don't know where in Ireland but they were not taken away from their mother so I wondered if the convent was more of a hospital rather than somewhere unwed mothers went then had their babies taken away.
I realise this is vague but I just need pointed in the general direction.

They were 37 and 34 and their daughter Margaret was 3. They had a son but his record is blanked out on the 1939 Register. The first thing I did was check the 1921 Census but the name doesn't come up, on either spelling.
I've found a possible maiden name for Elizabeth on her daughters (possible) birth record. Meaker. I've nothing to verify it but the date and place match.

Europe / Possible name change: Anglicised Polish name?
« on: Monday 24 January 22 22:29 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for help in tracing a couple who came from Poland possibly just after the First World War. Joseph and Elizabeth Sophie Mendrys. Their first official document I have found them recorded on is the 1939 Register living in Middlesex, London where their name is spelt Mindrey but it seems to have alternated between Mendrys, Mindrey, Mendreys and so on. We know they came from Poland and Joseph may have come from Prussia originally but its not certain and no-one seems to know when they came over. I've looked through Immigration, passenger and ships records but no luck.
Could they have travelled under their Polish spelling then possibly Anglicised it later??

We know much about their life in England but nothing about their life before.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Laurie

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Alexander Mckenzie age mystery
« on: Sunday 16 January 22 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
I dont have info for his first marriage, only know its his 2nd marriage because he's recorded as widower. Im trying to find the record of that marriage. As for Mackenzie or Mckenzie, he alternated between the two. Which is helpful. Im starting to think the original is lost or never existed.

Ive looked in all the usual places, Scotlandspeople included. His parents names were John Mackenzie and Christina McDonald but i cant find any births that match the names. His 2nd marriage has him as 45yrs which would make his DOB 1841. The census have it as 1841 too in Urray or Kiltearn in Ross and Cromarty which we know he lived but no birth record is listed for that year that matches. Even to allow  (quite) a few years either way no record comes up. So maybe those arent his parents first names, could be using middle names? Just keep going round in circles
