Hi and welcome to RootsChat

If you make 1 more post here I will be able to message you - My research into this family stopped in 2015 as my friend had no interest in going further but I still have quite a bit of data if you are interested

Hi Adam

Henry's army records are available to view on Findmypast, in Military just enter Henry Prosser Evans, army number 3578 and it should give you the records.

Also you will find several trees on Ancestry which have quite a lot of details about him and his family.

If you don't have a sub for them, reply to this post and then we will be able to swap email addresses by personal message.

Look forward to hearing from you
Sheila

Scotland / Re: Death Helen Mackay/Mackie
« on: Wednesday 15 November 17 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Colin
Many thanks for your input …… sorry I have taken so long to reply, we have had a bereavement in the family, so have been a bit distracted.

I went with your suggestion of Ellen Mckay and these are the details from her death reg.

1)   Ellen McKay widow of William McKay coalminer deceased.  Of 41 Hamilton Street Motherwell.
2)   Father Alexander McKay coalminer deceased
3)   Mother Margaret McKay ms Paxton
4)   Signed David McKay son of 138 Windmill Hill Road, Motherwell

There are quite a few discrepancies

Number 1 – almost correct, 1901 census has her living with her grandson David at 39 Hamilton St.
Number 2 – Her father’s name was William Duncan, and Alexander was a Duncan family name
Number 3 – Her mother’s name was Marion not Margaret, but her maiden name was Paxton
Number 4 – She did have a son David.  I have found one on the 1901 census living 121 Watsonville, Motherwell bc 1853 Cambusnethan, but can’t be certain that this is him.

I would appreciate your thoughts on all this, are there just too many coincidences?

Regarding William I think we will have to leave him for another day

Scotland / Death Helen Mackay/Mackie
« on: Monday 13 November 17 08:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I’m searching for the death/burial of Helen Mackay/Mackie (variety of spellings) nee Duncan born 17.5.1814 Pencaitland, parents William and Marion Duncan nee Paxton.

I have her on all the census up to 1901 but can’t find her on the 1911 so guess she died sometime between those years.

1841 living West Calder, Midlothian, aged 25 with husband William and 3 children.

1851 living Newmains, Lanark, aged 34 with 4 children.  Husband William living West Calder with Helen's sister Jane Meek and family

1861 living West Calder, aged 46, coal miners widow, with 2 children.

1871 can’t find

1881 living Dalziel, Lanark, aged 65, mother in law to William McCallum.

1891 living Old Monkland, Lanark, aged 78, staying with daughter Janet Batey and family.

1901 living Motherwell aged 87 and living in Motherwell with her grandson William McKay and family.

I also cannot find the death of her husband William who died sometime between 1851 and 1861 when Helen is described as a coal miners widow.  He was born 2.7.1813 Bothwell, parents Walter and Isabel Mackie nee Thomson.

I have gone boggle eyed trying to find them on Scotlands People so any help you can offer on where to look next would be much appreciated.
