Thanks to help from Rootschat I am progressing with my family tree and discovering that family stories aren't necessarily true!
My latest is the death of the above lady, age 50 in 1921. Supposedly she was in a road accident and killed. They lived in Pendlebury at the time but my great gran said the accident was at St. Michaels bridge.......wherever that may be...where Alice was in a cart and the horse bolted tossing her over the bridge. I have looked in newspaper archives but so far have found nothing to prove or disprove this 'story'.
Any suggestions would be  appreciated.
Happy New Year too!

Well that's solved a problem then....I suppose 'word of mouth' regarding family history can distort things considerably. Thank you everybody...I shall get to work on it all now.

Hello,
I am trying to sort out another branch of the family....Gladys Hull(e)y who married Vincent Howarth in 1934.
It is the Hully family who are elusive as I understand the mother of Gladys died young and the children were handed out to various family members....Gladys living in Hornby for a few years. She had several sisters: Florence, Joan and May amongst them. Gladys was born in the early 1900s I think. They were Roman Catholics and at some point they had a butchers shop in Swinton.
I wonder if anyone can help me further this very sketchy history?

Well thank you everybody...I don't know his occupation. I am leaning towards Ellen Parkinson but that is only because nobody in the family has had anything to do with horses!!

Hello,
My ancestor Robert Worthington was born in Much Hoole on 19th Sept 1788. I am trying to work out if he married Ellen Parkinson at St. Leonards, Walton le Dale in 1814 or Ellen Cunliff at St. Laurence, Chorley. Can anybody help? Their first child as far as I am aware was Richard born 1815, in Preston.
Nor can I find a record of his death anywhere which must have been between 1861 and 1871.
His wife Ellen died in 1864 and was buried in St. Johns Preston.
I await in hope.
