What a small, small world ours has become:  the answer to your question is Alice, not Bert.  The inquiry that I began many years ago before Alice's death is a never-ending one, for more information is available online with each passing day. However, there are still so many missing pieces to the puzzle.

My quest for details on the Walkers and Snellings led me to reconnect with the family in Kentucky.  So, I call Bert periodically to pry into her memory while checking up on her.

Shall we compare notes?  (*)

A few corrections, or possible corrections.  Another poster provided the following:

James Walker b.1816 in Hammerwich, Burnwood, Staff, married Sarah Sowter in 1851.  Children of that union were:

Elijah b. Sept 185e
Amelia b. 1856, christened May 25, 1856
Eunice b. 1859
Moses b 1861
Abel b 1862, and
William b 1867m christened June 6, 1867

The above information does not line up perfectly with data from the 1861 census or the 1871 census.  But there are sufficient commonalities to establish the connection.

I, too, am trying to trace James (b1819) and Sarah Walker (b1820).  One of their children, surely the last if indeed he was their child, was William (b1868) my great-grandfather on my mother's side.

I have not as yet retrieved a copy of William's birth certificate, but research of Staffordshire Births Marriages and Deaths narrows the field.  If the birth year is correct, William's mother's name was Flannagan (L/28/329).

However, I think it highly unlikely that Sarah, who would have been 48 at the time, was William's mother.  Thus, even assuming that William's mother's name was Flannagan, that does not to me indicate that Sarah's maiden name was Flannagan.

Turning to the 1861 census data, James and Sarah had two young daughters, Alicia 4 and Eunice 2.  I was able to locate the birth record for Alice (not Alicia), but I have not been able to find any record for a Eunice Walker.

If you have any additional information regarding James, Sarah and their descendants, do share!

William Walker left Burntwood around 1907 according to family history with his wife Mariah (?), son Elijah (named for his uncle) who was 17 at the time and daughter Cissie (age unknown).  Their destination was Pruden, Tennessee, where William Walker had a job waiting in a coal mine.  Not long after settling in Pruden, William lost his wife and son to what was probably an influenza epidemic.

Cissie married Odie Snelling and relocated to Frankfort, Kentucky, with William Walker.  Cissie and Odie had five children (William, Bertha, Alice b. 1926, Joseph, Arthur and Harry).  Cissie died in 1944.

As late as 1978 Walkers were still living in a row on Cannock Road in Burntwood.  I understand that the Walkers (which family I don't know) owned and operated the Star Inn (which sits, I believe, at the end of Cannock Road) for several generations at least up until some point in the mid 1970s.

Would love to have additional information on the Walkers who stayed in Burntwood.

Think this is them, all in a row.
