Antrim / Re: Allen Bell, b.1840/41 Crumlin, Co Antrim

I have received information from a representative of St Aidans Church, of the following baptisms:

Page 1. Glenavy C/I  Baptisms (Proni ref MIC1/44/1
Baptised 20th Dec 1840  Anne ND (natural daughter) of John Bell Ballytrummery and Margaret Cormican of Femore
Baptised 26th Dec 1841 Allen NS (natural son) of John Bell and Margaret Cormican both of Ballytromery.
Baptised 23rd April 1843 Catherine ND (natural daughter) of John Bell and Margaret Cormican of Ballytromery.
Baptised 17th March 1844 John NS (natural son) of John Bell and Margaret Cormican of Ballytromery

These are the Allen, Catherine and John that came to New Zealand in the early to mid 1860s.

My father is a direct male descendant of Allen, and has done a Y-111 DNA test if anyone is interested.

PRONI ref D2025-1 dated June 11, 1822 "A memorial of an intended deed of conveyance" was witnessed by Dolway Bell and Arthur Bell both of Glenfield.

All PRONI references starting with D2025 seem to be related to the Glenfield property.

I have tracked down a descendant of Robert Bell of Glenfield, and they are a DNA match with 6 out of 15 descendants of Allen Bell and his sister Catherine Bell.

This probably isn't enough to prove that my John Bell is the brother of Robert and Henry Bell of Glenfield, but he is definitely related to them somehow.

Thank you.
I have amended my post.
Are initials OK?

Also is it OK to still be seeking the mother? She is most likely deceased, would be 108 if alive today?

PS thank you for mentioning the Ryerson index. Very helpful  :)

Australia / CRAIGEN - did mother and son go to Oz from NZ?
« on: Monday 16 November 20 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

First time posting in the Australia forum.

I have been tracking a mother and son around NZ and last sighting of them is in a 1995 NZ electoral roll. The mother is not found in the NZ death index, suggesting she is either still alive  :o , or more likely died overseas. There is a suggestion the son died in QLD ca 2015 but this is unconfirmed.

Mother: Joan Gertrude CRAIGEN nee BROAD. Born 1912 in NZ. Married Kenneth Edwin CRAIGEN in UK in 1947. Kenneth died 1989 in NZ.
Son: R. K. CRAIGEN b.1953 in UK.

For all of his life in NZ, the son lived with his mother. If he went to Australia his mum most likely went with him.

I am not familiar at all with researching Australian records so would appreciate some suggestions or help with determining whether this wee family ended up across the ditch. My apologies if my request breaches any Australian privacy laws.

Cheers,
Sheryn

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Elizabeth Mavis LAVELL - Taranaki

Hi Janette, it is a family tree book produced in 2000.
I presume the sources are family members.
As the marriage occurred after 1940 I am unable to verify it using my only source, NZBDM online.

Minniehaha has been able to help me out, and I can now proceed with my research.

Minniehaha, thank you. What can you tell me about the LAVELL-MORRIS marriage?

I agree that if EML married MORRIS, then was widowed, she should have been EMM when she married JOBLIN. But I dont actually know what surname was officially used for the JOBLIN marriage. I don't have the marriage record for that, just that the JOBLIN family tree names her as EML.
