Quite so
There is a huge difference between Ancestry and MyHeritage in their estimates for my ethnicity

English 72% vs 62.4% (both pick up on the Southern English)
Scandinavian 10% v 36.4%
Irish 8% vs none
Scottish 7% vs none
Welsh 3% vs none
Ashkenazi Jew none vs 1.2%

The previous update jumped mine from 8% Scottish to 20%, now it is back to 7%
I have no known ancestors from North of Birmingham (1 set of GGG grandparents), with most lines traced back to ca 1700

While my Scandinavian has risen from 3% to 10% and Irish up to 8%, again with no known connections

Despite my ancestors being almost exclusively from the South of England, I only come out as 72%

338cM is consistent with a 2C 1C1R, 1C2R or a half 1C.

The first three your knowledge seems to eliminate, the latter is harder to pin down. Shared matches and the knowledge of ages of individuals can help eliminate some options

I have a 339 cM match who I believe to be a half 1C, his niece is a 167 cM match. My match's father was born illegitimate and in the right general area (London) which makes it more plausible. These two matches are also shared with other descendants of my GGF

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Hard to reconcile 60 cM match
« on: Wednesday 08 September 21 13:14 BST (UK)  »
On myHeritage I have two relatively close matches to me who have no significant size shared matches.

One is a 60 cM match, with most of her recent ancestry in Australia with the only common names going back to Cornwall in the 17th century (but they do not appear to be the same family)

This match appears to be on my maternal side as she is not a shared match with a 1C and two 2C on the paternal side. One set of maternal great grandparents, from whom I have a lot of matches, can also be ruled out as none of these are shared matches.

Could the connection to this match actually be further back than a 4th cousin?

Most of my 6-10cM common ancestor matches are 5th or 6th cousins of some sort but I do have one 3C1R who only shares 8 cM.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry promising more precision

Sometime in September. But what do they mean by precision?

Nearly all of mine seem to be good but it fails to pick up some where I can see a paper trail

On Ancestry I have a 3C1R (29 cM) and a 4C1R (28 cM) both descended from my paternal line yet neither is a shared match to my cousin. Another 4C1R from the same line is only a 10cM match

myheritage does seem to throw up a lot of European matches
My 8300 matches include
130 Germany, up to 47.1 cM
123  Netherlands up to 31.0 cM
93 France up to 37.0cM
79 Denmark up to 30 cM
74 Sweden up to 33.8 cM
63 Norway up to 23.5 cM

Other than war service- Nelson's Navy, Waterloo, WWI, WWII and a  Royal Marine ancestor in the 1850s I have no evidence of any of my ancestors (all English, from the Home Counties or the SW) going abroad. So all these connections are mysterious. I have yet to find any relative who migrated to Europe
